    Hornady flex tip

Hello guys I was wondering if anyone has tried the Hornady SST .308 150gr bullet labeled for the 300 savage.... In a 30-30.
The part number is 30303. I got some by mistake and when I opened them i noticed the flex tip instead of the Sst hard tip. The ogive profile is different from the normal Ftx but I know others have loaded regular pointed bullets in 30-30 and worked well.
If I load these i would like them to work in the full magazine. What u guys think?
Also why do these have a flex tip anyways? Doesn't most 300 savage firearms have a rotory magazine, or did they also chamber some with tube mags?

P.S. I do realize that the canellre is way off but I don't think that should matter with a good crimp, right? Or could there be some setback while sitting in the mag tube while firing?

Well there are a few questions there I would love to hear ur opponions. Thx.

    So nobody knows.......??? Lol

Or is it the nobody wants to be wrong and see get blown up? Lol Naaaa that can't be. Im sure there are like millions that would LOVE to see me get blown up ahahahah.

But seriously, it has a flex tip on it and I can't imagine Hornady making flex tips to the 30 cal that are at differnt hardness.

So the real question is this, did they chamber Marlins and winchester lever guns in 300 savage caliber?
If so then it stands to reason that the differnce must be that there are differnt amounts of bullet stick-out for the 30-30 and the 300 sav.
So as long as I load the bullet in a 30-30 case and it cycles in my 30-30's I should be fine with them not blowing up in the tube magazine.

Therefore they are safe, but some experimenting has to done with bullet seating depth only, but other wise I should be good...............right? Hehehehe

      Fordtrucks,

I would steer clear of using SSTs in a tubular fed magazine rifle. The tips are a VERY HARD pointy polymer. Could possibly/likely cause spontaneous ignition in the magazine.

Yes there a many different bolt actions chambered in 300 Savage.

Hornady's Lev o Rution [spl] line of ammo made for lever action rifles uses a very soft tip that will not ignite a primer under recoil in the magazine. Those bullets are called MonoFlex and FTX bullets. Here is a link, they specify which are suitable in 30-30s.

        Thx Pacrat,
I realize that in the normal sense, most "SST" bullets have a hard politer tip, I load tons of those for my hunting calibers. However I ordered some Sst 150gr .308 caliber bullets for my 30-06 but what I got are VERY differnt. They are specific for the 300 savage, again part number is 30303. Looking at the Hornady website u can see that the ogive profile of those and the normal 150gr Sst's are vastly differnt.
And I realize pics would help but my photobucket account is on the fritz right now.
I can assure u 100% that these have a "flexible" tip very similar to the "mono-flx" design.
I will have to really get some pics up.

Leme see what I can muster up.

Ok I took some pics let's see if I can do this using my phone lol.
First pick should be the 165gr normal SST and the 150gr 300 sav Sst.
I don't have a normal flex tip unloaded to i use a loaded 30-30 and a loaded 30-06 with the 300 sav bullet.

And then hopefully I show how they both flex similarly only the ogive and bullet shape and seating depth look different.

You should be good in a tube magazine, looks to have been designed that way.
