You can make a baffle. All it does is partially hold back the weight of the powder so that the powder below it, which is above the "funnel" will dispense more evenly and easily.

I took an old plastic easter egg, drilled some homes in it and ... voila, powder baffle.

Stand? Anything works, including some wood. Mine came in the kit, but there was a piece of metal with two holes in it, one of which held the powder hopper, then you mount that to something like a piece of wood or the edge of your workbench.

How about getting $250 worth of primers, bullets, and powder by not buying any of that crap?

Are you getting into reloading for the first time? Or are you or are just looking to buy stuff you might already have because of the rebate?

First time reloading. I am slowly accumulating what I need then will enroll in a reloading class before I start reloading on my own. I do have a Lyman reloading manual that was donated to me as well. I have been reading that too.

You could also look into the powder measure stand to get your rebate

                I second this motion....kind of...

I used to use Lee dippers for for weighing and trickling. Now I use the Lee Perfect Powder measure. It has the "patented-elastomer" wiping system. I've never cut a kernel of extruded powder. Ball powder charges are on the money and extruded powders or within +/- 0.3 grains so I trickle with the Lee dipper. Many bench rest shooters use their fingers to trickle powder. It doesn't have a cast iron body but the metal stand it comes with is good enough. I wonder if the new one is going to be case activated

For pistol rounds, you guessed it, I use the Lee Pro Auto disk. The hornady lnl powder thrower is supposed to be better than the Dillon. Using a gempr250 scale, 30/30 charges I weighed were withing 0.01 grains last weekend. They were either 4.80, or 4.78. That's it. I don't see how a case-activated powder measure twice the price can do better than that.

I think Lee products work, even though the robustness isn't there compared to other manufacturers. But I think is starting to take a hint and make better reloading equipment. I'm looking forward to the day they put out a new progressive press.

To the OP, don't feel pressured to buy $300 worth of RCBS gear just to get $50 back. The dies are fine. But any trimmer you can put on a drill is going to be a lot faster. I use the Lyman EZee trim and will get Girarud drill adapters soon for .223 and .308.

To each their own. You'll learn your own lessons soon enough and then you'll have a good idea as to the stuff you need and the stuff you don't.

Do you have tumbler or chamfer/deburring tool or calipers? Out of curiosity, what press are you using?

If you really want to go cheap, get the Lee Perfect Powder Measure. It actually would be perfect for Stilly because you can remove the hopper by simply turning it 90 degrees and then lifting the hopper off. It actually meters stick powders really well, and it comes with a stand. It is however a cheap powder measure, and has it's draw backs.

Here is the deal, every powder measure out there has it's positives, and it's negatives. Just get the one you think you would like the best, learn it's quirks, and load away.

Please tell me what the drawbacks are? I don't have any other rifle powder thrower except for the Lee Perfect Powder measure, so I don't know what I'm missing?

The other ones might be better at falling 15ft or getting whacked with a hammer, but maybe not. I seriously just think they all do the same thing.

Ball Powder = confident enough to check every 10th charge for plinking ammo.

Extruded Powder = check every charge and trickle to exactness for target loads.

Top 2 choices would be the rcbs universal hand primer if you need to add for the rebate.

Or, my personal choice. old style Lee auto prime (round tray) . You would need to buy this off of eBay. They average about 25 dollars. They have great feel and are easily disassembled should you encounter a problem.

The new Lee hand primers suck. I personally don't like the design of the Lyman. I own the standard rcbs hand primer. It's not bad, but you have to constantly take not apart for large and small primers. You also need to use your shell holder. If you buy this one, consider buying a second shell holder.
