You can get away with 2.26+ depending on the magazine. Those plastic Pmags are less tolerant than say the ProMags. You can get really long loads into ProMags. I know of one shooter who took a milling machine to the front of his magazines so he could get longer rounds in there.

Not that this is specifically pertinent to the conversation
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

haha That is very interesting! I pretty much exclusively use PMags because they just work for me. Maybe it's time to try out the ProMags...

Unless your loading for competition or some other very specific reason . I would load your rounds to feed in any mag on the market .
        Tolerate
allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

Anyone else find it sad that those who preach tolerance CAN'T allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that they do not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

I write almost everything in a jovial manner regardless of content . If that's not how you took it please try again

The only reason to long load is if the benefit of some ballistically superior round saves you points in the wind. It is fun to have a magazine fed round that works well out to 600 yards, but it is pretty specific.

I am going to keep the Lee crimp die on and replace the seater with a Forester Bench Rest 223 seating die.

I honestly don't know what the oal length of my match ammo is...ehh,with the eye ball the tips clear the front of the mag(mag length)80s seated long ,then turning the stem down until they don't stick in the chamber.
              Keep it simple!

Yeah, it sounds fun to be able to shoot well out to 600 with a .223...but realistically, my AR doesn't have magnified optics so I won't be reliably shooting out that far, even if the ammo, rifle, and myself are capable of it. My .308 on the other hand...

Irons baby. Irons. Not only possible but ultimately fairly easy (albeit on a pretty big target). Aiming black is 6MOA. 10 ring is 2 MOA. Where are you in Cali? Come to one of our matches and you'll be surprised at what you can do when you are surrounded by people telling you can and not people on the internet telling you it's impossible. That is honestly the only difference

I am in Apple Valley, sir. My AR-15 is equipped with an EOTech and back up irons. The farthest I've shot it out to with both is 300 yards on "man-sized" steel targets, but I've been able to hit the target 10/10 times with each. The holo almost made it too easy...

You must be almost as smart good looking and modest as I am.

The taper crimp would be the best choice and put the least amount of stress on the case mouth.

For the rest of you reading this please notice below the RCBS AR Series die is marked T/C for "TAPER CRIMP".

Another thing that I do that I forgot to mention is I take those same duds that I make (I make 5 of them) and A) make sure they feed into my magazine and B) make sure they chamber in my rifle. I load them up in the mag, put it in the rifle, and pull the charging handle and release...do that to cycle all 5 of them to make sure that the specs I'm sizing them to will chamber. So far so good.
