    Why "recipe"?

Personally I prefer reload specifications, or reload data, or reload specs.

Not that manly men aren't supposed to be cooking, but I am amused at this engineering oriented hobby using a term like recipe. Particularly when the hobby is mostly populated by manly men's men. lol.

Anyone else not fond of "recipe" when referring to reload details?

I use the term LOAD DATA and drop the "RE"

I have to say I think I like "recipe" . It"s better then data because data would seem to indicate the results of your "recipe" . " Specification" is good as well . I think I like both better then data . After this thread there may be a good chance I start using the other terms .

I think I use LOAD DATA because I worked up some very detailed load data sheets I use for load development . That term seems to roll off the tongue better the load recipe sheet .
    Tolerate
allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

Anyone else find it sad that those who preach tolerance CAN'T allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that they do not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

I write almost everything in a jovial manner regardless of content . If that's not how you took it please try again

I google "load data" because that seems to be the most common word used for published data.

Otherwise, its never occurred to me to be bothered by what word people choose.

what would one call a life time of shooting and a military career?most of what I have learned in the beginning about shooting and reloading has come from a 25yr retired Marine Corps Major, twice in charge of the rifle team at Quantico.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I've all the reloading books with load data and I use them to work up my load. Once I get the load I like for a bullet or caliber I write it down on a card and it goes into my recipe box with my other recipes. It is simpler for me to pull a recipe card rather than the book as there is less thinking so less chance for me to overthink it and screw up.

While I prefer Reload Data....recipe isn't exactly the wrong word.

Recipe, by definition is: A way of doing something that will produce a particular result.

However, I agree with you....it is normally applied when talking about food.

Besides.....Bullet concoction isn't easy to say either.
I once saw a movie where only the police and military had guns.

                    It was called Schindler's List.

I use load data when I am working from a published number. I have a few odd ball rounds that I cast and load for and I would say that it is a recipe. I am putting components together that there is no real published data or real test data (other then personal field testing).

                          I always just call it a load... "I have a really nice load for a 200g 45 rnfp with 231 or a really hot 44 load with a 240g HP and 296"

Load data sounds good, but it really is a recipe. Just like baking is simply chemistry and deviation leads to messy globs, interior ballistics is simply Chemistry + Physics and deviation from that eventually leads to squibs and kabooms.
