    Testing 357 Magnum results Gp100 & Coonan

First time reloading 357mag, but been reloading for 5 years now.

I figured for the first test set I would natz a-ss it and use the single stage.

    Equipment used:
    Redding Big Boss II
    Redding Carbide 3 die set
Lee Roll crimp die noticed 1/1000" of bullet set back in the Ruger on the 3rd round fired.
    Lyman case trimmer

Tumbled my brass as usual, Trimmed once fired brass 1.280 to ensure uniform crimp on the cannelure.

Used Hornady XTP 158gr seated to 1.580
    & Nosler JHP 158gn seated to 1.585

Tests were complete with work up loads from 14.0 - 16.5 of H110

Every thing cycled 100% in the Coonan Model B Although at the lower charges it was shooting about 2" low with charges from 14.0-15.0
At 15.5-16.5 the coonan came alive and on target at 10yards, producing nice recoil and nice flame.

All groups shot with 3/4" or below with a slight edge to the Nosler 158gn JHP

Ruger GP100 4" barrel was on target all day felt recoil @ 16.0 grains was similar to factory 158gn. Groups opened up to 1.7" at 14.0 but tightened up to 3/4" or below when the 15.0 charges up to 16.5 were fired.

The standard load that I will produce out of the testing is Nosler 158gn JHP over 16.0Gn of H110.

The goes to the Nosler for a slight edge in accuracy, and bullet cost.

Bullets do not set back under revolver recoil. They pull out. The .001" you are seeing is due to measuring error.

try any 125gr HP with 19grs of h110 behind it and watch the flame god come through that barrel and the people around you start gathering around you like your shooting a desert eagle!

I was considering testing out that load, but I don't see a need, since I have a desert eagle with a 50ae barrel. I'll start reloading for that next. My goal was to replicate a factory magnum round with a little more accuracy
