Loading 300 Blackout with Lee Press Questions

    Hey all,

I'm looking at purchasing a press for .300 AAC Blackout. I will mostly be using .300 brass, but am also open to the possibility of using modified .223 brass (Hopefully I can do that with this press).

Anyway, here is a list of what I'm getting, please let me know if anything has been overlooked or if I'm good to go.

+Lee 4 Hole turret press value kit
    +Double disk powder measure
    +Auto-disk powder measure raiser
    +Lee 300 Blackout 3-Die Set

    Is that it?

Wont comment on the press itself, because i have no experience with it. Same with the dies, i use the hornady and no experience with the lee for this caliber, so no comment there either. It looks like all the basics are their though. If you plan on making blk out of .223 pick up a mini cut off saw from harbor freight.

Almost forgot, get yourself a case gauge especially if you plan on making it from .223. And if that kit doesn't come v with inside and outside neck reamers, get that too.

Yeah you'll need this too as I recall:

Also don't forget your case prep stuff ( trimmer, chamfer tool, primer swager if using mil-brass, vib cleaner/tumbler etc), reloading manual(s)

Lastly, would recommend the classic turret vs the value/standard if you can swing it.

Lee dies are better than the others in this caliber especially if you are using cast boolits

if your doing a lot you may want to invest in the WFTrimmer I have one and it is great. I had a problem with the Hornady book though when I cut 500 pieces of 223 down. Hornady book said 1.40" which is to long so I had to re-cut it all again. Now I have a Sammi Spec sheet pasted to the wall above the bench.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade your kit to the Lee Classic cast 4 hole model. It is a much stronger press and will hold up better. Cast iron versus aluminum.

I bought the Deluxe Classic Turret Press Kit and the Deluxe Lee 4 Die set in 300 BLK. It works great for both 9mm and 300 BLK.

It would have been sooo much easier if they named it the Cast Iron Turret Press; I'm still not sure what they call the good one; and I own one!

Only squawk I've seen about the Lee 300BLK dies was a guy that had a gun with a firing chamber that was right at the minimum dimension. The Lee die resized down to fit an average chamber, but that wouldn't fit in the tight chamber gun. CS from Lee said the die was not for reforming to another cartridge, it was just to resize existing brass. Vast majority of peeps have no problem, including me, but if it's a tight chamber, you might...

Only thing I see you missing is your factory crimp die as that is not included in your lee 3 die set, also if your looking for the WFT trimmer I have one for sale in the for sale threads, thanks good luck, you should be good to go if you have everything already on hand ie bullets powder and primers!

Not sure if the LEE is up to the pressure required to reform the brass. Something like an RCBS Rockchucker with its compound leverage will make an easy job of it. The LEE should reload it it easily when your brass reused. Check with a local reloading club it may be easier to reform your brass on one of their single stage presses.

If you are resizing and not forming .300blk brass from 5.56 the Lee dies are fine. If you WILL be forming brass then RCBS or Forster FL dies and a Lee FCD is the ticket. Imperial case lube is the shizzle also.
Sheridan case guage is better then the Wilson for setting up and finding problems with you handloads.
And spend some time here www.300blktalk.com

Good luck i'ts addictive ask me how I know.

Which hornady book do you have? Just checked my 9th edition and it shows 1.358 min and 1.368 max.
