school me on this m855 issue

if im not mistaken m855 is (was) cheap target ammo? now they want to ban it, and im seeing it for almost a buck a round. why the jump? wont people just use the next cheapest target ammo? if its just cheap target ammo its not worth the premium, right?

What makes it special is the little bit of steel at the tip of the lead core. When it comes to price, it's simple supply and demand. The demand massively increases because a government agency with little to no oversight is threatening to take away ammunition from the market, so the suppliers are jacking up the price because they know they can get it. Sometimes the free market operates in a way that not everyone will like, but it operates effectively and there's always a reason for it.

Simple fact is that what is not great ammo is going thru the roof. Guys are clearing out $10.00 boxes at Walmart and posting for sale at triple the price in LODI/STOCKTON in the For sale forum. This to shall pass. Get a handpress, 1000 primers, couple lbs of powder and 1000 projectiles and reload 55gr FMJBT till this passes. Your spend less for everything and be set for the next panic.

The premium is what people will pay. It drives me nuts because I buy and sell a lot and try to be fair but you can honestly only sell for so cheap or else the real DIPS**** will buy from you and really jack the price up. Free market is the best thing out there though so be prepared and lots of USAS and deep calm breathing. There is a guy right now in Stockton who is selling 500 rnds of Walmart 62gr that cost him 142.00. and he is selling for $500.00. Now I doubt someone here will pay that but it is frustrating to see because I like the stuff to plink with and really only reload for my bolt action, but I went in to buy a few boxes this morning and every Walmart is out. So I got a 500 rnd spam can of Tula for $120.00 and will save my SS109 for later.

You would not buy it because no one can tell you what to buy, but that has nothing to do if others people will or not. There is a lot of folks who seem to think they need a Steel core round in case the govt wants a fight, but nothing says you have to buy it. The next cheapest ammo is already going up and will continue. Get a cheap reloading Handpress my friend and enjoy watching.

Thats something I've considered but I'm super busy with work school and kids right now. I will keep this in mind though, thanks. I definitely want to start reloading when I have more free time.

you can still buy AR ammo for less than $0.25 cents a round online. it will go through paper just as good as the stuff with the fancy spray painted green tips.

I'm sitting on a few 1000 of the presious green tips. Anyone wanna buy them for $1.00 each? I will sell by 500 and up only.

I think there's not a lot of overlap between the people buying them now, who generally don't seem to understand what M855 is, and the people who were buying them before.

I set aside the few I have (100 left over from a big cheap box I bought a couple of years ago) just in case it seems worth flipping them.

I can school you on m855, start reloading yourself and start making m-whatever load you want. Stop worrying about the ban and start reloading, can make much better ammo Than m855 OR get a different caliber AR.
