    Check out Natchez

I just got off the phone with the boys in Natchez. I made a big order of 9mm and .45 that should cover my shooting activities for some time. They are offering CCI Blazer aluminum for $7.49 in 9mm ball and $11.99 in 45 ball. Blazer shoots well in all my guns, never had an issue with it. In 45 it seems to be hotter than WWB. I do like the idea of blasting a lot of rounds and not feeling guilty about walking away from piles of once-fired brass, even though I don't reload anymore.

The best deal going around here was 50 rd Blazer brass in .45 ($14 and change) and 9mm (almost $9) at Wally World. I've been doing quite a bit of shopping around since I've decided to stock up on ammo for several reasons. I made a purchase from Natchez last week and the shipping brought the cost per rd up a bit, but in quantity they still beat Wally World.

I did the math and talked to the sales rep and the more you buy, the cheaper shipping is. 9mm doesn't weigh much, but 45 does. If you buy in small quantities, you might as well drive to Wally's place. Large amounts, delivered to your door, really save you some money in price, sales tax, fuel and your time. Taking all this into account, Blazer 9mm costs me about 16 cents per rd from Natchez. Blazer brass 9mm costs right at 20 cents per rd from Wally. Not a big deal if you're buying 2-3 boxes, but by the thousand it's a very significant cost saving. It's even better in 45. If you don't have the resources to make a big purchase, a group buy might be a good idea.

It makes sense to me to stock up on ammo since the economic and political situations are tumultuous. Ammo is a good thing to have on hand anyhow if you like to shoot.

I too am a fan of Natchez. Typically good (if not great) prices on all kinds of gear.

As for ammo prices, I roll my own... but I've been trying to keep a good supply of components on hand.

+1. Natchez is my go to place for Ammo now. I have ordered for them three times, without any problems.

Do you only get a discount on the shipping, or can you get discounts on the ammo too if you buy in bulk? When I do prices comparisons, they seem to be about the same as Walmart. I can get a box of 100 Winchester .45 for about 28 dollars, which is about 30 cents a round after tax. I didn't check the price on Blazer ammo at Walmart. If you were to buy the Blazer from Nachez, and you bought 10 boxes, after shipping the price would be about the same as from Walmart. And, you are getting a little better quality buying the Winchester. Is this correct?

Secondly, when they ship to you, are there any requirements for a signature on delivery? And, what does the box look like? I had a friend who had some ammo delivered to his house and he said that the box he received had a bunch of yellow "Explosive" stickers pasted all over the box. Living in an apartment complex, I would not want my neighbors getting scared about me having explosives delivered to my house.

If you order a case, it comes in the actual box with your address label attached to it. So it has Blazer, Winchester or whatever written on the side of it. Someone over 21 has to be in to sign for it when UPS delivers.

You are right, the price is basically the same as Wal-Mart. But this is a good place to order if you live in a metro area and your W-M doesn't sell ammo. Also it has a lot more selection that what W-M sells.

The deal right now is 9mm CCI Blazer (non-reloadable cases). It is on sale at $7.49 per box of 50.

The shipping usually starts about $12 and it works out about $20-25 for a case of 1000. All depends on the weight and the more you order the cheaper the shipping works out.

As regards the look of it, take a look at another post in this section (a few down) - "first time ammo online". A guy has posted a picture of his delivery.

Regarding the Blazer ammo, has anyone ever run into a shooting range that does not allow shooting Blazer ammo? I went to a range the other day that would not allow shooting Blazer ammo, and I didn't think to ask why. Does anyone know why a range would not want you shooting Blazer?

Blazer is different from Blazer Brass.

                    Blazer = Aluminum casing
Blazer Brass = Brass casing (this is preferred/mandated by indoor ranges)

Yea, I'm talking about the aluminum casing. Why don't indoor ranges like that?

Because they can't sell it. Also, separating them from brass is time consuming/expensive.

I looked up my local range rules and it says..

We no longer allow the use of steel core, steel or bi-metal jacketed ammo.. (can be tested with magnet on the bullet)

Is Blazer aluminum classed as bi-metal jacketed ammo?
