9x18 Loads

I'm loading 9x18 Mak with 93 grains projectile and Bullseye powder.

My dilemma is to use load data from Alliant's site or Lyman's handbook?

Alliant's site:
Bullet - 95 gn
OAL - 0.98"
Charge - 3.9 gn
velocity - 1010 fps

Lyman's 48th Ed handbook:
Bullet - 95 gn
OAL - 0.970"
Charge starting - 2.2 gn
Velocity - 587 fps
Charge max - 3.4
Velocity - 872

I already have loaded about 15 cases with 3.9 grains. I would like to start with 2.2 grains as per Lyman's handbook but am afraid that I may get a squib load.

Has anyone used 2.2 grains with bulleseye and 93 grain projectile?

I haven't loaded this - but I would look to see if there is a Load Books for this and/or look on the online loading sites to compare.

Do you have any factory loads - where you could use a bullet puller and get an *idea* - note you may not know the exact formula for the factory load unless expressly stated on the packaging.

Just suggestions.

unfortunately I do not have any factory loads to compare.
I guess i will make one or two rounds with 2.2 grains and shoot them carefully at the end of shooting session

I just made two rounds each using 2.2 grains, 2.4 grains and 2.8 grains. Will try to shoot next week and report progress.

Load results

Tried my loads today on my CZ82 and P64.

Bullet: 93 grain cast MBC
Powder: Alliant Bullseye
Case: WCC formed to 9x18 spec

I loaded with following charges:

4 Grain (as per Alliant's site)
3 Grain (Empirical value)
2.8 Grain
2.4 Grain
2.2 Grain (starting load as per Lyman's)

All loads worked perfectly with 4 grain being a bit snappy on P64. No squibs at 2.2 grain in both of the firearms.

After this experimenting I created my own spreadsheet with different powders that I have as tabs.
I mark each load after a range test.
Resides on Google Docs. Pretty good tool for reloading.

When In doubt I use the powder manufacturers data, their product is the one that makes other things accelerate really fast LOL

Given that info, I would have used the Alliant loads. 1000fps is not a hot rod load in Makarov. Plus a Makarov is a strong gun and you won't blow them up with a 10% over charge. I've had one for 21 years....
