I received a call from the guy I bought my Dillon 550 from . . .
He says he found his other press and was I interested as he needs to raise some cash to re-fi his house to a fixed mortgage.
I told him I would drop by on my way home from the BE Match at South Bay R&G to see what he's got.
So I show up and he's got everything in boxes and I take a peek. Inside is a brand new looking XL650 still in the original shipping box and another box with some misc stuff in it.
I ask him how much and he says . . . $400 for everything. Knowing the 650 brand new right now is about $500 (but not telling him) I asked him if he was sure and he said yes. So without even opening the second box, everything goes in the back of the truck.
So as I'm closing up the truck, he says do you cast your own bullets . . . I said no why? He said he has some casting stuff he would like to get rid of. I go and take a look and there is a Lee casting pot, about 11 ammo cans and a SAECO(sp) bullet sizer. I asked him what he wanted for the pile of stuff and he said $50 and it's yours.
I said deal and started loading them up.
5 of the ammo cans were really heavy. I asked what was in them and he said "lead" I said OK and got them in the truck, which was noticeably down in the back when I was done.
I get to the house, get everything in the garage and start going through the boxes and take an inventory . . .
A Dillon XL650 (According to the paperwork it was originally purchased in 1993 for $265) including two complete priming systems, the case feeder with L Rifle, S Rifle & L Pistol.
3 complete tool heads including powder measure (Set up for .45, 9MM, 223 & 38 SP/357) and two empty tool heads. The powder measure "Slotted Bellcranks" (read actuating levers) are the older one piece not the newer two piece ones. So now my only question is do I have to upgrade them?
The Powder Check assy, all the misc parts of the caliber conversion kits and a bag of misc parts (springs, clips & other small parts.
In the ammo cans the five really heavy ones contained 5 lb ingots of lead. I'll have to weigh them to see how much lead there is. Two of the others contained molds & handles (I have to look to see if any of them are any of the ones I would need ) .45 185 & 200 grn swc or .38 148 HBWC or 158grn SWC. There is stuff in there I've never seen before . . .
The last 4 cans (standard .50cal ammo cans) contained brass. Two were assorted .45 ACP, and the other two were .308 with a head stamp of RA 70.
Overall I think it was a very good deal. A call to Dillon for a few pieces parts and I should be able to start putting it together & getting ready for the Fall reloading season.
