$50 for Internet is ridiculous. As for your other points, you haven't looked at any of the links.

We cut cable 6 years ago. We cut our land line phone the year after. We were being charged $100/month for cable and another $30/month for phone. That means since then we have saved almost $10k!

Over the air is good for sports. Get or build an OTADVR and that will be one part down. We use subscribed to Amazon Prime for the shipping and then they added Movies, TV and Music. So we dropped Netflix. Saved $7/month.

There is tons of content on Youtube. Prime is now as good as Netflix. And believe it or not but many TV shows are available to stream for free after their air date!

When we moved into our new house 2 years ago the local cable company gave us six months of cable for free. I thought that after that it would be hard to go back. Nope, there still is nothing on TV. My kids don't even understand the concept of Having to watch a show at a particular time. A friend tried to explain it to them and they looked at him like he had grown horns our of his head.

I have hulu and netflix and am very happy with both srvices 7.99 and 8.99 I think, both apps are availible to download on most smart tv interfaces.
That's not an apples to apples comparison. How much do you pay for internet?
Add that to the steaming subscription and you have a fair comparison.

Under programs go to maintenance tool then system tweaks then click zero cache. this will help with buffering ALOT!!!

Remember to clear your cache under general maintenance after every couple of movies. Helps to speed things up also.

If the stream is buffering a lot during playback try another source some are faster than others.

FYI: If you do go the fire tv route you do need a wireless or usb keyboard to set it up.

A wired connection is the best way to watch but a wireless works to just pause the show and let it buffer for 5 min then watch.

Good luck have fun remember it's free!!
Thanks bro. Now I can cancel my Hulu Plus account. My wife and I despise those freaking commercials every 10 mins. Its selections is not that great anyway.

            At&t keeps adding ghost charges.

So i will switch to another isp and ditch cable

              Regarding DirectTV....

I was month to month after my two year commitment was up. I called DirectTV and got the same package I pay $80 now for $37. Granted price is good for 12 months but they also threw in a $200 visa gift card.

If you are after your commitment, definitely call and renegotiate your deal.

At any rate, I know quite a few guys who run this:

Same basic system as XMBC, as noted by ebencikiv, but without the tough learning curve - they create the GUI so makes it easy to find anything you want to watch, including just-released movies like American sniper, and live sports.

Personally, I don't think you can't rely on XMBC content 100% of the time to watch what you want to watch. And it all seems a bit glitchy. Not for me at this time, but some guys absolutely love it.

I've been looking into these XMBC boxes. I've found some from $40 and as high as $500.
Those of you that have/use xbmc, which box do you use?

Lost do not buy an xbmc box its a rip off. Get a fire tvbox r a fire stick and side load it. It is so easy ill post a vid in afew have to find it.

Its free soft ware and most of the boxes are just loaded with crap and they charge way to much with little or no suport.

Load it to your computer and see if you like it before buying any thing.

If I can't get it OTA or DSL... it's not important.

Never had cable, dumped Direct TV 15 years ago.. no biggie.
After watching WTC Bldg #7 being razed, and considering it's main occupants..

I stumbled onto this note while checking advanced weapons..
"911 = false flag. WTC 7 was brought down by demolition. 47 floors came down in 6 1/2 seconds - not hit by a plane. Just one of hundreds of absurdities that occurred that day. Wake up".

So I finally got my Fire Stick! It's on the TV and running!
The only thing is that I'm having issues installing the kodi thing onto the stick...
