    wifi range extender/s

Any recommendations for a range extender? Do they actually work?

Not looking to increase speed; just the range throughout our home.

    Thanks,

Not really. Had best luck with running another router from wired port to another room and using different ssid.

What router do you use? I actually use my old routers as extenders. I highly recommend using DD-WRT as your router's firmware. It is open source and very powerful. Although it may void your warranty, I firmly believe it is worth it. Not that difficult to do either. Takes about 20 minutes and I can help you if you need. PM me if you have other questions.

Send me pics of your: Colt Detective Special, AMT Hardballer, pre-64 Winchester Model 70. I'm looking for them.

Put router in middle of house above head level. There are also free apps test signal strength and dead spots

I needed to boost the wifi signal so it would reach my detached garage. I got one of these, and it works great.

                    I use the Netgear AC750

I had to get it because the amazon firestick ( I saw here in the deal section BTW ) was not getting a good signal from my router.

                    it offers

but you can also set it up so it will talk to your devices @ only 2.4 GHz and back to your router at only 5 GHz. Supposedly this configuration saves the device some overhead and helps it run faster. Since ALL my devices attached to it are 2.4 GHz only, I set it up this way.

                    So far so good.

Get a high-gain omni and then splice the correct adapter that will connect the omni to your wireless access controller.

Put router in center of the house?

Extend via MoCA to another router if network wiring is unavailable.

They work just fine if you set them up right. There is nothing magic to them. You want to set it up as a repeater. It needs to be close enough to get a good signal from the main box. If you think that the average WiFi range is roughly 300' diameter that means that you only have 150' actual "range". So your repeater needs to be inside that range and that in turn will get you another 150'.

And you don't need to pay much for a decent, well reviewed repeater/access point. Like THIS.

Your other option is to upgrade your antenna. If you just and a bigger coverage area get something like THIS.

If you are going for point to point distance get THIS.

And if you want serious range, like 10 miles, just use THIS

None of those solutions are over $50 ;-)

OR... you could just build a Cantenna!
