Picked up a cheap Android Tablet, Love it!

    Hello,

Just passing on my initial review of this Asus tablet:

I have been an iPad user for years but prefer Android phones. The Asus tablet in the link cost a whopping $79 with free shipping. I have been playing with it since receiving it today and it seems like a great little tablet. It is small, light, and slim. Probably a better "travel" tablet than a full sized iPad or Samsung.

The screen was nitpicked as not sharp on a few reviews but to me it seems plenty sharp and easy to read. It boots quickly and recognizes wifi networks right away. I had it connected to the internet within 2 minutes or so of turning it on.

Anyway, $79 seems like a pretty awesome deal. I am not shilling for the vendor or manufacturer, just sharing. Thanks for reading.

Hell, I picked up MY first tablet recently. It was the RCA quad-core 7" from Walmart for about $50 w/keyboard dock-folio.

It really only has one viewing angle, or it's blurry, so I will probably get a ~$100 tablet with an IPS display after seeing how fast the quad-core RCA was... It plays all the games I tried very well (if landscape in the correct viewing angle), and controls the Chromecast very well. It's nice and quick for when my phone gets home and needs to charge from being overworked.

I will NEVER pay Apple a phreaking penny... and if Windows tablets come down in price I might eventually get one, but not if you "have to" associate an e-mail account with your login... ... ..
I don't think I could function on a crippled Android tablet (Kindle, Nook, etc).

After seeing how slow some devices get after a few legit updates from the MFRs, I really think I would get a quad-core, with IPS (or better) 1280x* res.
Tech is moving too fast for my to opt for a dual-core. My lady's Nexus 4 drags a bit behind my dual-core phone, and her tablet is doing the same after an update or two.

How is the responsiveness on a dualie these days?

I bought android, windows and ipad tablets when they first started rolling out. Android was at 2.2 or so at the time. I wanted to see how they all worked. I hated the android tab and gave it to my father in law. I liked the ipad and thought the windows 7 tab was slow but ok.

I picked up a Samsung galaxy tab 7" about 6 months ago. It was on sale for $129 and running jelly bean. I figured for that price I would give android another shot. Well it was a world of difference. I really like the latest android. Kit Kat is even better. The Samsung screen is on par with apples over hyped retina display. I also got an iPad air2. Compared to my first gen iPad it is an amazing upgrade. Now I just need to get a modern windows tablet.

quad or dual core what is the important part.

A dual core A9 can kick the crap out of funky old non cortex line processors regardless of how many cores they have.

A8s are also cortex so they're usable / functional. Arm 6,7,8,9 whatever (I have an Arm 11 pad around somewhere too) without the A all suck and are better suited to running DVD players or TV boxes that don't run programs from a market (you 'can' tune them to run your own custom software... but... otherwise under powered).

The samsung pads are all at least dual A9s these days.

I don't have tech specs or anything. This tablet can't compete with an iPad or Galaxy Tab, but the price makes the trade off worthwhile. Perfectly fine for web surfing, email, and CALGUNS.NET

No doubt android turned the corner at 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. I don't see myself buying an apple product again anytime soon.
