    ag.ca.gov not found

So a customer came by to pickup his firearm. I went to bookmarks (Mozilla) and clicked on DES (https://des.doj.ca.gov/login!displayLogin.do?) and got "Server not found". Tried several times and started swearing at the state. Every other site worked fine including calguns.net. I went to my neighbor's and tried it there...everything worked fine. Seems I'm locked out of anything ca.gov related. How does that happen?

ETA: Interesting, tried a system restore and immediately got a fatal error!!

Did you check for black helicopters and windowless moving vans parked on your street?

They have been having DNS issues across the entire ca.gov domain. No idea what they are trying to do

Odd that my neighbor can hit it and I tried from my day job computer without a problem. I hope my DNS gets the update before I get back from Thanksgiving break.

Unless you both have the same ISP, there's a chance that your computer is not using the same DNS service that your neighbor is using. DNS is propagated, and can take 72+ hours to complete propagation. When a DNS entry is changed, some DNS services will be updated instantly, while others may take the full 72+ hours. It's just the way it is.

Is there a "universal" DNS address that works better than others?

              ETA: Works this morning

True but if the root servers have the update, you don't have to wait. Just find another DNS server that also has the update and use them. This does take a little technical savvy however. OpenDNS has a pretty good guide.
