    Directv cabling and genie Qs

I currently have 3 cable runs from my multiplexer under the house. Can I put a normal signal splitter on one of those and run to a 4th room w/o going all the way back to the multiplexer?

Also, I'm consdering an upgrade to genie. I currently have one DVR and one regular receiver (both non-HD). Would genie affect my question above? Does it matter that I have a dual-lnb dish?

    TIA,
    Dean

I have run FiOS and DirecTV on the same coax (well to the same splitter).

I have the older Genie, and a few (thin-client-ish) genie-mini's, and the mini's can do HD, or SD, so they were cheaper/month than SD, OR HD FIOS boxes in the remote rooms.

I think anything MoCA compliant should not have issues...?

    What are you multiplexing?

My Directv sattelite signal. Dual LNB, each feeds a cable to the multiplexer, from there to the set top boxes. I'm far from knowledgable about this; this is just how I was told to set it up.

I install systems primarily on boats but there are many similarities. The dual LNB standard def antenna is what you have, but for the Genie/Client setup you will need a 3 or 5 LNB multi-satellite antenna that uses whats called a SWM (single wire multiswitch). The SWM uses one coax from the antenna to a splitter (typically 1 in 8 out). The Genie and clients connect to the 1X8 splitter. If you wish to use the existing receivers as well, you will need additional equipment. As to your question of a 4th standard def receiver, it's antenna cable would need to run directly to your existing multiswitch. There is a wealth of info on the various DTV technical forums.

I'm looking at upgrading to the wireless genie. My understanding is you need a dual run to the main reciever, then wireless or cabled runs from that to all other rooms, but I beleive you can leave a wired room off the genie.

Does anyone run the wireless genie? How's the picture?

All Verizon FiOS runs are "supposed to" be direct runs, but I have extended via splitters, and so have techs with NIM-100 devices, even when it first rolled out with no ill effects. Although, there is sure to be loss per connection.

You cannot split the cable. They will install a new dish and multiswitch for the genie. Bonus you only need 1 cable going to your boxes and you can watch recorded shows from every box.
