FWIW I can get wholesale cost at Interstate Battery if there is a desire for something like Optima deep cycle batteries for the project.

I like the idea of 2 PA units, one at each end of the line with a single RSO in charge backed up by the cheap air-horns for RSOs (http://www.amazon.com/SeaSense-Large...JRV12CSE79ATJ9) to call emergency cease fire with 3 short blasts which is then relayed by the RSO in charge over the PA.

Also a rotating beacon on a mast at center of line sound reasonable as a visual indicator of cease fire? RSO In Charge table for sign ins?

I think I will be bringing my own air horn and red strobe for going down range to set targets anyway....

Wouldn't low tech do the trick? Even with earplugs on, everyone's gonna know the sound of an air raid siren! The small, hand held ones have a 1/4 mile range so no unwanted attention. The bigger one has a 1/2 mile range. I got the idea from the March zombie shoot, "28 Days Later" was playing and towards the end of the movie, the guy uses the siren. Had so much fun looking for one online, I just might buy one for myself!! lol

If you can find someone willing to donate or lend some speaker tripods.
For approx $75 I can get 2 50 watt class D mono amp boards and 2 50 watt public address outdoor horns. Wire the amps to the horns, get 2 really cheap FRS radios with headset output jack and wire the radio to the amp input.

Viola, long range public address using the radios that you already have. You could put them on a different channel with a PL than what you use for general RSO comm.

Assuming that you would not be broadcasting to them full time, you could run them the full weekend off a single 12v 7ah pack, or a cheaper 60ah deep cycle automotive style battery for much longer.

How about drive sticks of rebar or 3/4" EMT into the ground and clamp speaker on to them?
