Unable to alter scanned document in W7 WORD

Little help CG tech....Scanned document to W7 WORD, and document is there, but unable to alter, or fill in blanks.

Is there a quick way to alter this document in WORD or some other avenue, I need to get this out...Thanks in advance...

You scanned in a paper document and are trying to modify it in Word? Did you use OCR software, or just a straight scan? Without OCR, the scan is just a picture, and can't really be edited with Word in the manner you're trying.

Ok I see that my scanner doesn't have this function, is there a work around ?

I'm a PC dummy so this is what I do when I have to sign and send back an emailed contract, form, etc in whatever format:
- print the doc.
- sign / change / fill-in the doc as needed.
- scan the completed doc, save as jpeg, attach to reply email.

Optical Character Recognition. It's a function of the scanning software usually, not the scanner itself. It looks at the image and turns the letters it sees into letters you can edit. Otherwise, the computer just deals with the scan as a pixel for pixel image copy, and has no idea there's even text involved.

What exactly are you trying to do with the scan? Edit some part of a form and reprint it, or just fill out the form as-is and send it off somewhere?

Probably going to be more trouble than it's worth for a single document. Got a typewriter laying around?

Save the document as a PDF file (in MS Word, select File > Save As. Then select file type as PDF).

Next, open the PDF document with Adobe Reader. Click on the Fill and Sign tab on the upper right hand corner. Click Add Text and simply click on the location to type in the text you want.
