    Sega GameGear Repair (power issues)

Just received a Sega GameGear last night, woke up this morning to test it out and when I turned it on, it stays on for 1 sec and turns off right away. I have fresh and new batteries and everything. My google fu shows me it has to do with the internals and may need repairs.... So does anyone on here know how to fix/repair it so I can get it working. Or know a shop in the Long Beach area I can take it to get it repaired. I am not a toolys person so I rather someone else do it.

    Thanks guys.

Make sure it is the correct adapter. Measure the voltage at the connector and see what is reads. I would expect somewhere around 10VDC while loaded.

You could probably go up to 12VDC power supply if you wanted. Just a guess without seeing the internals schematic.

Here is a site that might help you out. http://members.optusnet.com.au/evilt.../ggrepair.html

Bad leaking capacitors appear to be common with this Sega. Try opening the case and see if any are leaking. The above page lists all the caps on the board giving their values and location. This could be a fun project.

I am aware of this, but like I said, I am not a toolys people and not good with this kind of stuff(read: ill screw it up/I am an idiot) So if anyone know a place to do it near long beach, or willing to help me out, I would much rather go that route.

That or if anyone has a working one, ill buy that one lol

If you want to send it to me, I will open it up and take a look for you and try and fix it. I will mail it back and who knows, I may be able to fix it. No guarantee, but I have fixed all sorts of things.

Is the back of the unit easy to take apart? If you want, take the back off, take a picture of the board and post it here so I can see the capacitors.

They use security screws, so if you have a harbor freight around you should get those security screws kit for 5 bucks that comes in that red rubber holder.

Might be cheaper and less of a headache. To just try and buy a working one on ebay.

Or you could try this guy? He's offering a repair and refurbish service.
Located in the UK but ships world wide.

That is a heck of a price for him to troubleshoot and repair a unit. $28 plus shipping is hard to beat for someone that supposedly knows what they are doing with these things.
