Forget about Windows 9. Now it's Windows 10.

Well MS themselves were hoopin' and hollerin' that Windows 9
would be the big fix for the abomination OS Windows 8 or
the clean up version W 8.1. It's NOT going to happen !

MS has decided to trash the whole deal and is now calling the
next OS release Windows 10. Here is a sample of it by a
guy with a weird haircut, but somehow fits this pc perfectly..

    excerpt

This is getting a little frustrating, well more than a little, but if
they stick to the way the desktop appears in the vid, it may be
ok. Why they didn't do this in W8 is beyond me, but the more
they advance, the more it looks like W7.

I am in no way a Microsoft Fanboy... But I think they knocked it out of the park.

For getting things done, and businesses I already see this being very popular. Of course, I was also a huge fan of Longhorn, and ran it for a few months before Vista came out and destroyed my faith in M$...

Every other version is NFG, always has been.

      Win 3.1 - good
      Win 95 - bad
      Win 98 - good
      Win ME - bad
      Win XP - good
      Win Vista - bad
      Win 7 - good
      Win 8 - bad

Never ever upgrade software until enough other people have run it to determine if it's OK. That's how I've never run the bad versions.

^ That's sound advise. I have to admit, I like the W10 layout
          if they stick with it.

I usually wait until the first Service Pack for new Windows versions. The first people to upgrade are really unpaid beta testers, it makes R&D much cheaper.

Super Emo-hair, yo... for the club-kids.

Updated list, as some biggies were missed:
Win 3.0 - sucked, I never really used
                Win 3.1(1) - good-ish for it's day, I used a lot
                WinNT 3.xyz - sucked
Win 95 - bad, but I used extensively
                WinNT 4.0 - okay, I used a bit
Win 98 (including 98SE) - good, used extensively
                Win2000 - okay, used extensively
Win ME - bad, I never used or bought this product for any of my rigs
                Win XP - good, extensively
Win Vista - bad, I never used or bought this product, any of my rigs, unstable in 32 bit, and anything that takes 2 days to complete windows updates to bring current in 32bit is not upto par
Win 7 - good, used extensively, still unstable in 32 bit... for me anyway
Win 8 - bad and I will never use or buy this product, not efficient enough for my use to get to basic things I use daily.

Well I have one more test rig with Win7x64, and that is a Samsung 840 Pro... we shall see if it makes me happy before 86'ing the Windows lag (for no logically-apparent overly-graphic-intensive/CPU-intensive-reason), and jumping on the 24/7 Linux train...

                  I didn't include NT based OS pre-XP

You're right about NT 3.x, I had a neighbor who I used to share a ISDN line with, and he was reloading his NT 3.51 server every other week. 4.0 was quite an improvement.

Should've read to the end... Either way, looks like a cross between Win 7 and 8.1. It might just work, if they don't screw it up at the last moment. And it's good that they finally realized that not every computer has a touchscreen. And in many cases - doesn't need one.

My list of MS OS would be:

Win 3.0 - it was interesting, but sucked to actually work with. It worked Ok after a bunch of tweaks (many of them on the DOS side).
Win 3.1(1) - it was decent for the time. Still required some tweaking (well, does it always), and 3.11's networking... well, let's not bring back painful memories.
                        WinNT 3.xyz - sucked indeed.
Win 95 - it was alright, especially after OSR2.
WinNT 4.0 - Ok, but not something you'd want at home.
Win 98 (including 98SE) - pretty good, and easy to customize.
Win2000 - Ok, especially on the server side. Lots of neat stuff we now take for granted was introduced in it. It was still quite raw, but promising.
Win ME - now that messed up Win 98 required a lot of tweaking, and it still worked like crap.
Win XP/2003 - good, especially the 2003 version of XP and R2 for 2003. It pretty much fixed Win 2000, while keeping the good stuff.
Win Vista/2008 - bad, unstable, resource-hungry, sucked big time. Having made several attempts on the server-side, decided to wait for Win 2008 R2 and Win 7.
Win 7/2008 R2 - good, stable, fixed the Vista/2008 crap. A good workhorse.
Win 8/2012 - very disappointing, the new interface truly does suck (not to mention the need to retrain people, and that's costly). On the upside, it's fairly stable and efficient. So it's pretty decent on the inside, but the interface ruins it. 2012 works just fine, and the interface doesn't matter as much there. It still sucks, just doesn't matter as much.
Win 8.1/2012 R2 - unlike XP/2003 and 7/2008 R2, it didn't fix its predecessors' issues, and failed to even give them a facelift. Still decent on the server-side.

I use Windows 8.1 on my Windows laptop, with the interface modified to mimic Windows 7. It works fine, and I'm more used to the interface (since it's modified anyway ). We'll see what Windows 10 brings.
