Surveillance system heat generation in closet

How much heat do you think an NVR recording 24/7, a UPS, and a POE switch would generate in a 10 x 10 master closet, mounted 2 feet above my safe, 1 foot down from the 9' ceiling in a rack system?
Part of me thinks it will turn into a hot box, but I hope not.

Dust will probably get to it before heat

You should be fine. Granted I would like to see a passive cooling system on all fronts. You will probably have failure not from the rack enclosure (unless its fully enclosed) but probably failing fans from accumulation of dust over time which will lead to heat dissipation problems that will cause the overheating of your devices.

This surveillance system got a little out of control on me but I'm okay with it. I plan to just have an open rack. If it was fully enclosed would it need forced/filtered ventilation? (gears are turning)

Yes on the controlled ventilation, you don't want to get there. Hopefully you don't live in death valley where your master closet can get extremely hot on your summer days. Eventually if things get to a level where the temperature reaches to extremes, devices might not behave correctly, they start to step (control and govern work to not generate as much heat until thresholds are met like a CPU), or they invoke a fail safe which is to shut itself down completely when reaching a threshold for temperature.

Might want to get a vented door?

I've had a fanless POE switch with backup power in a really small master closet when I was living in the valley. It was fine, however I cannot answer for the NVR system.

I think I may be fine. The closet has its own HVAC vent and the entire house is kept in the 70's at all times.

All components you listed are or should be quite low as far as power consumption. I doubt it will be a problem.

                Ahh. good point!

NVR MAX consumption with 1 HDD : 60w
POE Switch MAX Output :15.4 watts

I can't find a consumption number for the UPS, but like you said, these are MAX ratings so I'm feeling even better.

Its gonna be bad heat wise but probably still work (stuff will be in a hot environment but still work). The height will have a lot to do with it. The temp at 9-10 foot will be significantly hotter than at 5 or 6... I had a computer and tivo up like that and if I stood on step stool to change something on them I'd start sweating since my head was in the 9 foot zone of the room... when the rest of the room was fine. On the other hand; I had a window open in the room and it was still hot up there. If its a closet with no air flow....

I wouldn't worry too much about heat. We have some network equipment (router, PoE switches) exposed in a warehouse environment. It gets up to 110+ easily in that area during the summer. All the equipment is uncooled and covered in dust, and it's been running fine like that for about 5 years now. Even servers are safe to run in 90-degree rooms, full time. The a/c is more for our comfort than the equipments survival.

It is a non issue. Put the equipment in and run it.

Want to see the temp rise before install? Stick a 100w light in there and close the door for a day while monitoring. You are certainly not going to have a case of thermal runaway. I would guess five degree delta from ambient.
