I've become an Apple/Mac Fanboi!

Well, not really. You're free to use whatever you like, I don't care.

But - my computing life has truly been different since I got a Macbook Pro a few months ago. For work I still have a Win7 machine w/ SSD and my wife has a Win8 machine with HD. I also have an older Vista64 machine for garage use.

Better
- No random system hangs, waiting for network, discovering devices etc
- Startup from sleep is virtually instantaneous, much like a smartphone
- Cold boot is also very fast, several times faster than my Win7 machine
- Software and system updates are faster and less intrusive
- Display and hardware quality are top notch, better than any PC I've seen. Good ergonomics
- Great battery life, totally silent operation

Worse/different/unchanged
- Window widgets are on the wrong side, no way to change, getting used to it
- Firefox just as unstable on Mac as on PC. (Responsiveness much better, however). Still need Adblocker and Flash blocker.
- Keyboard layout different, required a key mapper app to make MS office products work as they do on a PC

Overall I'm blown away with how much thought has gone into the Mac. I fought it for years mostly due to the $$ but also because I can't stand the whole "white apple sticker on my car" culture. I still wouldn't be caught dead with the sticker, but I would definitely recommend getting a Mac to my friends & family. For example my wife's Win8 machine is only about 6 months old but constantly has various issues: Can't find network, it's unresponsive/flaky, is slow, can't print etc. Now I can fix or work around all that, but it's a PITA at this point in my life. Same thing with my mom's Win laptop, I'm going to give her a Mac next time I see her.

Welcome to the kool-aid. If you do find yourself needing a Windows-specific app again, it's super easy to run Windows inside of virtualization software, or even in a dual boot setup. PM me if you want tips on how to get started at some point.

I was going to get the new Retina MacBook but decided to just install an SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook and it made it feel like a brand new computer. Super fast startup from sleep.

Thanks, but I got the Mac version of Office for free from work, that's all I need. (PC version is better though, I'm sure MS doesn't like having to support two versions...) Plus I still have 3 windows machines in the house in case I really need it, but so far I haven't

Pcs are a joke after getting used to a Mac. I regret not switching 7 years ago. Would have saved me thousands of dollars. Windows are crap.

I'm not a huge fan of Apple computers....but I am liking my wife's Apple system better than my windows systems. I'm about to shut down my Windows XP system. I have stuck with that system because I have so many engineering programs that I haven't upgraded over the years due to lack of use or cost.

If I every have a company of my own again, I wouldn't use the typical MS Office and go for Open Source word, excel, etc. Not much I can do to get around the engineering software, I will just live with that.

gotta laugh at the folks slamming windows machines like their problems are somehow the PCs fault and not their own.

i love macs and bought a new imac for my parents a couple years ago. they loved how big the screen was (27") and the fact there was no "box".

I bought an iMac about 5 years ago. It was OK, but found that all of the free software I used on Windows wasn't available on a Mac, and the relative equivelent in software on the Mac was always non-free. In the end I just gave it to my mom. It seemed like a toy. Something that low level computer users would use. (perfect for moms, newbies, virus magnets, etc).

It's funny that you mention system hangs, because I never had such things until I used the Mac. To be fair, it sounds like you had poor quality hardware for your Windows computer. Most of your Mac benefits could be attributed to that. Macs are very expensive; had you spent that much on hardware for the Windows machine? I build my computers, and can put together a top-notch computer for about $1000.00. You get the cheese if you buy a Mac for that price.

Back when I was using the Mac, it seemed like a glorified Linux distro. This was about the only thing I liked about the Mac. I'm typing on a Linux computer right now. It's my downstairs computer. Ubuntu 14.04. My upstairs (office computer) is running Windows 7. I'd say it's the only computer I need, but I'd only say that if I could only have 1. I usually have 5 or so.

When the world grows up and evolves to the next level of computing, we'll all be using Linux. Might as well get started if you haven't already.

Guess what - APPLE HAS 5% of market share. They USED to have over 35%.

5%. Big time. Go for the gold. Thousands of dollars? lolz in WHAT? The software is way overpriced, the hardware is 10x the price of WinTel.
