    802.11ac Router Recommendations

Time to upgrade to an 802.11ac router. Have several ac devices around the house, so I think I will upgrade.

    Any recommendations?

I don't know about that new nighthawk but the nighthawk AC1900 is a really good rougher especially if you game or stream a lot of stuff.

I have the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 (R7000). Works great! The QoS settings really work as well. No incompatibilities with any of the 20+ wifi devices attached to it. That could not be said of the Netgear R6300 that I replaced.....

I switched to a Asus router recently and it is way better than my old Linksys. Highly recommend them, mine isn't AC (too rich for my blood) but they do have several options. The range is great and I am getting 56mbps through it wirelessly. The management interface is very nice as well and it is a classy looking device.

Very popular and very good reviews on amazon.

Just a thought OP... have you considered breaking out wireless and routing functions into separate devices?

There are some nice dedicated 802.11ac APs on the market today which act 100% independent of the router itself.

Here is one of the more popular options I like to use, but many others to consider... I have 3 of the UAP models installed in the ceilings of my home, client roaming is coverage is excellent.
WiFi perfected. Thoughtfully designed access points with enterprise-class performance, effortless scalability, and an unrivaled management experience.

Dedicated radios are generally better quality and performance than you will find in a SOHO router, and leaves you to use whatever you want for the firewall/router.

I've gone this route for many reasons, one of which is because I find the lifecycle of the typical house router poor and opted for used enterprise hardware which can be found on the cheap...

I'll just leave this here too.

I have the ASUS RT-AC68U and I've been completely happy with it. The only thing that it's missing is native VPN capability but it can be added with 3rd party firmware.

I switched from the normal stand-alone wireless router and went with AirPort Time Capsule - 2TB. Love it. Speed is great, tons of storage, allows me to add a usb HD for more archiving of stuff. I play WOW a lot when I'm not cruising the forums and have never had a speed problem. ISP=TimeWarner. I have one PC, and one each iMAC, MacMini, MacBookAir, iPad and a couple of phones.

+1 for the Apple Time Capsule/Airport Extreme. I have the latest AE and it works really well. The range thru the house is the best I have seen.

Give it a try - you can always return it!
