Youtube and surfing pop-ups dangers?

Youtube vids and web surfing pop-ups suggesting a down load to improve performance, good/bad/trouble?

"Is your Mac running slow? Clean your Mac from junk to make it faster"

My vids on the Mac do have some problems that I believe are from a slow service provider and router.

In fact you should be running an ad blocker and a popup blocker at the least. Regardless of the OS you are on.

Unless it's a Linux distro. I have never got his with anything browsing on a Linux box.

It's kind of funny that mac people are only now starting to learn the lessons that the rest of us learned decades ago.

If you use Firefox then get Adblock Plus or Adblock Edge (Edge is based on Plus). Also I recommend getting NoScript it may take time getting used to allowing scripts to run but after a week all of your regular webpages will be added to the white list.

Recommendations please, new to the Mac. Like the size, hopefully Apple will stand behind this little box, good battery life.

ad block plus as already mentioned and Do Not Track and No Script.. these are FF and Chrome add ons.. You should not be using Safari

it is bad. it'll either be macdefender or macshield or something like that. googel macdefender and you will see the dangers.

Ghostery is another sweet FF/Chrome extension.

on topic of privacy/security HTTPS Everywhere is awesome too... Forces encrypted connections to any sites that have the option (although ordinarily wouldnt allow you to access; which is many, unfortunately Calguns.net isnt one )

Just don't click on any advertisements. If you find them annoying just x them out. I spend 80% of my time taking out the garbage off peoples computers. Studies have shown the average life expectancy of a PC to be less than 3 years. Reason being, folks get them so infected they don't know how to deal with them. Answer- Lets just go buy another one, Welcome to Windows 8.1. I have had several clients pay me to purchase 7 and reformat and install on brand new computers. I will never build a computer with any form of windows 8! Sorry for the rant, but anything you click on can bring non fortuitous results.
