Samsun Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8

Plan is coming up for renewal so I'm looking at either the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8 for T-Mobile.

    Pro's/Con's, good/bad, opinions?

      WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

With renewal he will be offered a $199 plus tax rate for either.

OP I'd get the M8. I have the original One and I love it.

I have both and they are good phones. I have only run into issues with the M8 while trying to nav via google. Essentially, the gps took a while to locate the device but that seems to have been solved with an update.

I have found that the M8 without a case is like trying to hold onto a wet soap bar. Slippery as can be and will slide around in your car unless it is secured.

I do like that the S5 with verizon has an ipv6 certification for dust, moisture and vibration. It can be submerged in 3ft of water for 30 minutes and it will not be damaged.

Having faced this debate myself, I went with the M8.

That being said, you'll probably like the Samsung better. While the M8 does take SD cards now and the Duo camera is awesome-as is the speakers and build quality - it's a phone geeks phone. It's the tech equivalent to a Springfield 1911, while the Samsung is a Glock 21. The S5 isn't as pretty or as cool as the HTC, but it's definitely more practical. I've never dropped my phone in a body of water, but that's just me.I've also never walked a Law Enforcement beat either.

There's virtually no aftermarket for cases and whatnot for the HTC, while Samsung is gunning for Apple-and as such there's no shortage of cases .

                Hope that helps.

Well, I have had the S5 for about a month now and I have had no issues. Rather like this phone. But I can't compare, as I have never had any HTC phones.

I have the M8. Before I had an S3 for 2.5 years. Things of note that I like: Double tap screen to turn it on - sweet. Lowlight camera sensor is very very good. HTC sacrificed them MEGURPICKZELS you all find in modern cameras to be outrageously high and made it such that the sensor bits are larger to bring in more light. I approve. Lastly, the speakers are freaken LOUD and clear. Apart from that, an android is an android is an android. The minor nuances between phone makes are just enough to get fan boys raving over why their phone is better. I am certain I would have been just as satisfied if I had the S5, I basically flipped a coin and went with the m8. The next version will have a 2560x1440 resolution screen. One thing for damn sure is IT IS BETTER THAN ANY FRUITY IPHONE.

Agreed, then folks on the fence who have been waiting to upgrade to the most powerful phone can make a purchase, one can always wait to see what Apple comes out with later this year as well.

I want to start by saying I don't have any experience with the HTC One M8 and I only tested the Samsung Galaxy S5 for a brief period (one week).

My experienced with HTC cellphones, the latest up to this point, has been with the HT One S. It ended due to a failure with the power button/ribbon - repaired and failed twice. The soft key power button/ribbon seems to be a known issue with HTC units with long term use. I believe the double-tap or knock feature of the M8 was implemented into the OS to address this issue. Ragweed, GardoneVT and deebix gave some good examples on the positives and I have to agree that HTC has better external speakers.

Overall, I've been impressed with the Galaxy units from Samsung and I'm waiting for the release of the Note 4 to replace my current daily phone. Another phone I'd like to test is the LG G3. All this being said, I still fall back to my Nokia 808 after using the S3, S4, Note 2 and Note 3. The Note 3 came close to retiring my 808. All these units are better than the 808 with the exception of voice quality.

If the op is set on choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8, my vote goes to the GS5. If the op can wait, I'd suggest deciding after the IFA in September. There are lots of interesting phones being released within the coming months. At the least, it will lower the price of the GS5 and One M8.

For anyone that is interested in the LG G3 and are currently with T-mobile, check out the following link to become a beta tester. You can win a pre-production LG G3 (which should be similar to the final commercial unit). The first entry period just finished, but there are four more. The second period begins today from June 3 - June 9th. Subsequent entries will begin every Tuesday with a limit of one per period. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'm currently using an S3, I like it but my phone keeps rebooting all the time or turning off automatically. Did some google on it and it looks like a known issue. I've handled both the S5 and the M8 at the stores an can't really decide.

I ordered an S5 for my wife and I'll wait till it get's here and play with and see how I like it. I might even hold out for hte LG G3.

Thanks Ethon1 for the beta tester link.
