    PAY PAL HERE vs SQUARE

I need to add one of these payment devices to my business.

I've been researching the two options today, curious if anyone has experience with one or both and could share their experience.

    Thanks

Set both up for your business, there are folks that will not use PP, Square is a good option for CC's.

Most all my online buyers use PayPal, a few snail mail checks or money orders.
Square is a face to face transaction that is easy to do and money goes right to your account. My wife been using Square for the last 4 years or so and swears by it and her customers prefer it.

PayPal also has the credit card reader but I've not used it yet.
I setup a Dwolla account last year but its unused.

Years ago I setup a PO Box but it was used only a couple times a year so I shut it down.

I've had experience with Square and it seems to work pretty good. Whenever I take a taxi my card is still in the system and it will automatically email me the receipt without having to key it in again.

How much are you planning on charging per month? The interchange rate they assess is probably higher than if you went through a dedicated business provider. I've seen people get good rates through Costco http://www.costco.com/merchant-account.html

I meant total business charged through the system per month. If it's just a couple hundred either should be fine. If your business is clearing thousands of dollars per month through credit cards it might be better to get an account with the larger merchant processors. Square/Paypal are convenient but they are usually not the cheapest.

I have been using merchant anywhere for a while. It is crap. The software for android locks up or resets all of the time. The credit card reader/printer would act up all of the time. I talked to tech support, but their fixes didn't help anything.

I have the business setup on Quickbooks now. I am still learning and working on using all of it. I am using tablets with android and Quickbooks mobile for windows to do sales receipts, invoices, estimates, etc. out in the field and in our workshop. I just setup intuit go payment. Quickbooks premier on windows is pretty cool but needs some fixes. The mobile apps suck nutz.

Go payment was supposed to be tied into my quickbooks account, but I have to open it as another app and so far it is setup for an inventory of items you sale. Problem is that I have hundreds of items in quickbooks already. I don't want to mess with another app. So far I don't see a way to store a customer's credit card in go payment, like you can in the windows version of quickbooks. I have many repeat customers. I do like being able to send receipts as emails from quickbooks mobile though. Go payment seems to only work in portrait mode, but I use my tablet in landscape as I have a keyboard case. The go payment scanner plugs into the headphone jack of a phone or tablet. Only problem is that it is too short when you have a case on the device. I told them that when I signed up, as I already had two devices, but they still sent me another (no charge though).

My mom and I have thousands of dollars charged to cards, by our customers, every month. We have around 300 of our customers put into quickbooks so far. Many customers buy product or have us service their equipment every few weeks or even weekly. The technology beats using receipt books and a spreadsheet, but it has to work well. It seems that software companies don't beta test their products or use the customer feedback. Intuit is all about getting a sale. I can't say I am impressed with their service or product. Their tech support sounds like it is located in India as well. I hate having to deal with that type of accent and I don't like supporting other countries, even though it is unavoidable.

The problem with the easy to use technology solutions is that they are not secure. Everyday we are hearing about companies that had their security breached, or that lost a laptop or phone containing customer financial information. Do you have insurance to protect you against the lost of customer information, and the losses that the customers are going to be suing you for? Big companies can afford lawyers and insurance companies, can you? Losing your phone could expose you legally for millions of dollars in lawsuits. Paper is low tech, slow, and not as convenient, but it is more secure. You don't hear anything about breaches when the company takes the simply step of personally shredding papers before discarding or recycling. I ran my own company for over thirty years without the loss of a single customer's information. I shredded everything, and don't/didn't keep/use any customer financial information on any electronic devices. My trashcan was stolen twice (I always expected that was done by my ex-wife), but nothing bad every happened (there was nothing in there that could be retrieved).

                    What about Dwolla?

I also heard square is compatible with quickin books .. if you use that.

Depending on your volume and average transaction size it may be less costly to use an actual merchant account. Additionally, if you are selling actual firearms neither Square or PayPal will allow your transactions.

Let me know details and i would be happy to assist. We have card readers for your iOS or Droid devices and process for firearms sales as well.

PayPal is starting to become relaxed. If it's not a firearm they are ok with it. If it's just parts and accessories they are fine with it.
