What does this mean on my laptop

The BIOS file version does not match the BIOS ROM version?

Do I need to fix this? Or just keep ignoring it.

That could need your attention. Just to confirm:

    1. This message occurs at startup, at the BIOS, and are you prompted to perform any action?

    2. What computer model do you have and how old is it? Is it home built?

If it's somewhat recent you should be able to download a BIOS update and flash a new version. If the problem is correctable that will fix it. Otherwise your motherboard may be on it's way out and you should back up any critical data as a precaution.

Are you trying to update the bios? Odd that is popping up. Or are you trying to update bios while in the operating system, i.e. you're in windows, and the manufacturer is trying to sense what PC you have for it to know which bios file you need?
