Best Browser that is NOT IE(xploder) or Chrome?

Got a 10+ year-old HP laptop with XP on it (yeah, I know) that will now be relegated to web browsing and email checking only. I have Avast free version on it. I used this thing at work for 8 years and it was loaded down with ALL kinds of stuff -- FrameMaker, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Outlook, and tons of other apps I needed for work.

It recently started showing stability problems, occasional blue screens and failure to boot, so I uninstalled EVERYTHING I could (don't need it for work anymore) and ran BIOS and Windows hard drive checks on it (which all say drive is fine), ran CCleaner several times, which removed a TON of dead stuff, and then optimized the drive. Gained nearly 2/3 of total drive space.

I had Chrome and IE on it but got rid of Chrome because I hate it along with most things Google (too invasive, always wanting me to log into Chrome+ and find out who I am and give them phone numbers when I try to log into different gmail accounts; fuk you google, MYOB!).

Finally I get to the point: What is best, leanest, quickest browser besides IE and Chrome?

I've heard of these, but never used:
    • Foxfire
    • Opera
    • Safari

I want minimal problems, features, prompts, popups, upgrades, and other bull****. Fast is nice. Must be XP compatible.

Something to last the remaining life of this old laptop, until its hard drive finally fails, or whatever else kills it. Thanks.

I use Safari on both my Mac and my Lenovo.

I had Fire Fox on my 10 year old deck top and was happy with it with XP,

The puter finally gave up! I bought an HP desk top with Windows 7, and am now using IE.

I figured my operating system is Microsoft, IE is Microsoft, so why not. So far so good!

I know, it was pretty fast, much faster than IE, never crashed on me, but I just have this thing against google. I still use gmail, and I also have an android phone, but I try to eliminate all other google products whenever I have a choice.

Thanks guys, I will give Opera a shot.

I love Firefox, by it sure does hog and slow down my older PC. Maybe time to try Opera as suggested.

Well, using Opera now and not really liking it.

With Calguns, for example, I typically go to a forum I like and go down the list of threads, right-clicking on a title and selecting Open in New Tab, until I get 10 tabs or so, and then I go to each tab and read the posts in that thread.

With Opera, half the tabs I right-click on say "Loading... " forever. They never load. If I re-right-click on the thread title and try again, sometimes they load, sometimes they never load again.

Also, embedded YouTube videos don't show up. Instead all I see is a grey square with a circle with a line through it.

                          Opera sucks too.

                          Safari is next.

Chrome really is the best browser right now, but I agree, it is intrusive. It's a shame because I really used to like Firefox. It has become so bloated though.

If you don't end up liking Opera, you can try Pale Moon. It is Firefox based but peoe say it is less bloated. It is also slower about integrating newer FF changes. (If you have seen the latest FF revision you know why that is a good thing).

I've been using chrome but I think I may try out pale moon to see if I like it. Opera felt slow to me so I didn't bother with it too long.

I use an older version of FF version 11, and have no probs with it
but if I were to go to another browserm it most likely would be "Slim Browser"
                              It's pretty damn fast.
