    Have Question about MS IE...

I was in a rush this morning and barely caught a mention on the radio about MS IE being attacked/infected (yuck!). The announcer warned all users to not use IE anymore. Is this a hoax? Has MS finally been taken down?

IE is the world's most popular web browser for downloading Chrome or Firefox or Opera or anything other than IE.

Uh, why are you still using IE? As noob_tube noted, it's the #1 browser for downloading another browser. Please, do yourself a favor and get either Chrome, Firefox, or Opera... Do it for the kids.

I use chrome. I know that Google watches what I look at to tailor ads for me but that's why I have adblock

Most people that have used IE versions from 1.0-on-up don't use IE as their browser unless it is required for job-function, or only for a particular site when it is required. Sharepoint for example, and another browser for everything else...

IE's tie-in with the OS has always been too close, and too exploitable.

I have been a Firefox user since EARLY beta, and Mozilla browsers used Netscape-code, and built up from there. Firefox has been the best browser, other than a like... 5-version string that sucked bad starting around ver 10-12.

I don't like any browser for Windows that you hit ALT in and won't give you an standard old-school-menu (Chrome doesn't, so I am not fond of Chrome), as I am a keyboard-monkey.

Functionally, I love Chrome because it is all I need it to be. No toolbars, no search boxes, no extra garbage at the top of my screen. Just my tabs and bookmarks. Last I checked (it's been a while I'll admit), Firefox and Safari aren't that clean.

                +1 for Firefox.
Chrome is allright, but I don't really trust Google in general, and choose not to use it.

You should try SRWare Iron. It is based on the Chrome source code, but doesn't have the privacy issues Chrome has.

New version installed yesterday, and the only change I saw was that it didn't say Firefox at the top, only tabs. Prior to that I think "Firefox" in orange took up 1/2-a-tab width anyway.

I went to Chrome during the "bad versions" of Firefox, but came back when they fixed it, I hate wasted-time when using the mouse. Old-school interface of the ALT menus saves a bunch of time too, and there is not reason to learn keyboard shortcuts for one application (Chrome) that isn't industry-standard... it just doesn't make since to me.

If you have to run IE, I suggest installing EMET (Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit) too. It helps lock down IE, Adobe by default.

But really everyone should be running firefox and chrome.

People still use IE? Why, when Chrome is so awesome.

I switched to Mozilla Firefox...it's OK, don't really care for it.

IE is on company issued laptop, Win 7 Pro, prefer it and will seek out the EMET.
                            Thanks for the advice!

Cool! I just started using Safari (won't use IE or Chrome anymore; I have another thread in this forum about that) and whaddya know? Hit the Alt key and an old-school File/Edit/View/etc menu appears at the top of the screen. Learned something new today, thanks man.

User percentages do NOT prove which is the best browser, only which is most popular. If you have problems with Google's data collection policies like I do, Chrome is not an option. Have to say though, it was VERY fast compared to everything I've tried so far.

Gonna give Safari a week or two to see how I like it. So far so good. Not quite as fast as Chrome but def faster than IE. Opera had functional issues for me so I uninstalled it.
