Why am I only geting 13 point off MSRP on 3500 Microsoft Lync licenses

Bidding a large deal and trying to get help from Microsoft with regards to pricing is like pulling teeth.

I'm at 1.1 million MSRP on licenses and only getting 13% discount?

    Need some fast advice.

IBLSE (In Before Linux Solves Everything) crowd. I thought Microsoft would have at least gone as far as a 250k discount.

(Windows 7 x86 actually ran better for me in a VM, on top of Linux via VirtualBox.)

You may want to go in there with a competitive jabber quote. Might get you a bit further.

Because they know you have to use them, no alternative.

Are you working directly with Microsoft or with a VAR like CDW/Dell etc.?

Honestly, I seriously doubt you're going to get better than 13. You might be able to pick up a couple of points with a quick close depending on your payment terms but Microsoft is...well...Microsoft.

I'm assuming you're in the enterprise agreement tier and that you can't take advantage of .gov or .edu terms?

I setup a jabber server at my job. Plenty of different clients, so you can find the one that works for your company. At the very least you can try and leverage it for a better quote, as mentioned.

You might get a better price from some channel partner, provided someone else asks for it (since they track who the request for a quote comes from). PM me the price you're getting from them, and I can ask the MS partners I work with for a quote.

Fortunately, this is not so. There are alternatives, Jabber being but one of them. I've used Jabber. It works very well and is not only cross-vendor, but also cross-platform.

Since he is working on a bid I assume he works for a MS Partner already.
