Pretty sure they log a summary of customer calls. You were no doubt flagged as a hot air case after the first call.

Switch to AT&T for the shortest time you can and come back to Comcast as a "new" customer right after. It's time to put up or shuttup

I've had pretty good luck getting them to give me the new customer deals. I've been a Comcast customer for almost ten years without interruption now. When I call, I don't threaten to leave them - they know and I know that there s no better internet service, so I'm not going anywhere. I tend to just insult them for a bit. I acknowledge that - technologically, at least - they're great, but holy **** their employees are worthless, subhuman, and not even deserving of the oxygen they're taking away from actual people.

              You're doing it wrong.

When you call and point out the rates and how much extra you're paying, you need to bring up how many years you've been a comcast customer. Instead of "I'm going to cancel!" you need to be somewhat whiny about it. At that point if the person you're on the phone with has any level of competency, you'll likely get transferred to a "customer retention representative" or something along those lines. That person will then get you a discount. It may not be the same as the discount, but it'll likely be close. I haven't paid comcast the full price in a few years, and ever 6-12 months when my rate goes back up I just call and ***** about it, then they transfer me to someone who knocks my rate back down.

Simply telling them you're going to cancel and go with AT&T is laughable because they know what AT&T's rates and speeds are, and that you're very likely aware that you'll end up paying even more per mbps just by switching.

If it wasn't for the fact that comcast is a regional monopoly, I wouldn't care enough to call and have them adjust the rate, but because I have zero choice in the matter(and definitely wouldn't be with them if I did), I don't mind spending a few minutes to have them knock $30-$40 off my bill.

RobertMW, my experience doesn't coincide with yours at all. I pay for 50mbps down, and I get 50mbps down. On their lower tiers they have their "blast" garbage or whatever they call it, so if you pay for 10mbps down the first portion of a transfer might be at 20mbps, but when you step up the service that goes away. Even still, a steady 10mbps down even with their speed boost crap is still better than 3mbps from a DSL connection.

I called comcast on monday and tried to get my cable cut off and just get internet. They're trying to charge me $79.99 for 50mbs, meanwhile their website has the same deal plus the local channels for $49.99 a month "for new customers only." I've played this game before, so I called back.... For a total of FIVE times and every one of them pretty much told me to F off.

So, now I'm looking for a new internet provider. AT&T is the only other option in my area as far as big companies go, but they have a data limit and that's just not cool. There's a few local companies, but the "fastest" one for residential use is 10mbs for $69.99. The Netfix website says you only need 5mbs for HD movies, but for some reason 10mbs scares me.

                What say you?
keep comcast even though they're jerks.

I'm paying them that for 20mb... but I keep it since it works (unlike dsl).

But if you want to switch for a few months to be a 'new customer' again; buy a 'clear' internet device on ebay. Activate it and use it for a couple months. No contract so you can cancel anytime. About $55 a month for 8 down. Good enough for netflix and no install hassel.

Just by way of an example of this not being quite in sync with my experience ...

(Incidentally, the speed dropped a little right as I was firing up snipping tool, and came back up again right afterwards. It was at 27 Mb/s for the window in the foreground and 31 Mb/s for the one in the background.)

Pro tip get basic cable with you internet and your price will be lower since you bundled. I use to do this and I have directv for my tv viewing pleasure. The nice old lady at comcast told me this trick, get the lowest cabel plan possible no cable boxes or equipment but the router.. It will save you maybe 20 bucks.

I just went thru this and now I'm getting the 50mbs and more tv channels (from basic to basic plus) for 20$ less/month for the next year ($59 total monthly)... The second guy is the key...stress how long you've been a customer/the relationship. Comcast is great if its working/don't have to talk with them and at a good rate.

From TW in LA County. Not a fan of them, but it works and pretty much the only thing available in the area. I wish I had more upload speed, but it stays very consistent. I use a lot of bandwidth for the part of my job I do at home, so it's needed.
