    Alternative to Dropbox.com

As many of you have read/heard, Condoleezza Rice is now on the board of directors of DropBox.com. If you're like me and need an alternative to dropbox, I found Copy.Com for all your online storage needs. 20GB Free with the link.

Now to the real topic: How do YOU feel about Rice being on the board? Am I being paranoid about my information being accessed now?

SFTP, because any you use could be bought, then you could have your data compromised, assuming it isn't already, if you don't host it yourself.

I just started using Google Drive. It's fairly easy to setup and is a lot like Dropbox (adds the folder to your desktop, nice mobile app, free).

There are plenty out there to choose from but I split most of my stuff between Dropbox & Drive.

Does Google drive give you an actual "drive" similar to say a mapped drive in Windows?

I currently use OneDrive (formerly MS's Skydrive) and while I have 25 gigs of free storage, I HATE the web interface. Probably because they adopted the same "tile" interface as Win 8 etc etc.

But Copy.com looks to be a product of Barracuda. We've run their products at work and have been generally happy with them.

Regarding Condi being on the board, nah, doesn't bother me at all.

It doesn't give you a mapped drive, but it does put a folder on your Explorer window so it's easy to drag stuff onto the drive. I find the web interface fairly easy to use and it's simple to share specific files or folders with others.

I just looked up Copy.com and it seems pretty legit as well. Maybe I'll have all 3....

                I never liked dropbox.

I've used Google Drive since 2012 and been extremely happy with it.

Do you think Dropbox didn't look at your data prior to Ms Rice being on the board?

Do you think other like services don't look at your data?

                  Newsflash - they all do.

Host files at home on an alternate port via encryption, and log everything, while making logs remotely ---, rather than RWX?

                      No one uses sshfs?

Last time I checked FUSE was still an active project.

I wrote to Dropbox and told them how smart they are to have Rice on their board. I will continue to use their products because of her connection. IMHO she is a patriot and the best S of S we have had

DropBox state years ago that they had access to your data unless you encrypt before you store.

                          Get your own NAS.
                          Get a real firewall.
                          Set up a VPN.
                          Host your own data.

                          That's what I do..

Looked at Copy.com this week, ugh, that interface was not doing it for me. Not sure why everyone things we are idiots and need crayola crayon interfaces.

I did install Gdrive and was disappointed in that I could not set folders outside of the gdrive to sync. Yes, I realize I could use a sync tool then have them copy their contents over to the gdrive folder but really, I shouldn't have too.
