I have noticed that stores are not really selling pc games anymore. Where are the best places to pick up new games for pc?

http://store.steampowered.com/ is (by #'s sold) the most popular way to buy PC games nowdays. Unless you are looking for a specific "blockbuster EA title", the use a similar service www.origin.com.

You can also find "game codes" by service on Amazon, greenman gaming, etc. For these, they basically email you the code, and you enter it into the appropriate service to activate the game on your account. Another cool link to follow is:

Digital Game Deals, Compare PC game prices on Steam, GreenManGaming, Gamer's Gate, and more!

They track sale(s) from each of the major vendors (which happen quite frequently)

Let me know if you sign up, I have a few giftable games on steam I can pass over. (also "Yreka" on steam).

      Steam +1000

When you switch PC's you can just reload your Steam account and your games are there, with updates and patches. I can't remember the last time I opened my CD drive.

^ This. Also check out humblebundle.com every week or so. They've done deals on indie and blockbuster titles.

If any of you are into flight sims, there is a new modern combat flight sim that looks very promising.

Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) 2.9 is a free-to-play digital battlefield game. Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks, ground vehicles and ships possible. This free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes a flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter. An additional more than two dozen aircraft are available for purchase. The download comes with one of the most powerful mission planners ever designed, full network play and more than 156 AI weapons systems, 105 ground vehicles and trains, 50 air defense systems, 19 ships and 84 AI aircraft permitting you to plan and play highly sophisticated missions. DCS World is massively extensible through additional DCS modules as well as user-made add-ons and mods which you can purchase and download from our site.

Feel the excitement of flying the Su-25T "Frogfoot" attack jet and the TF-51D "Mustang" in the free-to-play Digital Combat Simulator World!

Steam is okay but it's crap how they handle updates and expansion packs. I try going thru Amazon when possible.

I remember that with the SIMS in particular, the updates where months behind. If you tried manually installing the update, it would fail. I do notice that Steam is frequently "updating" when I launch it now but that's the client I believe. Maybe they keep it all the way updated if it's a new game?

Blame EA for the SIMS updates, not Steam. The Steam version of the game is different from the EA/Origins version, and takes a different patch. EA is trying to get customers to bail on Steam (which takes its cut of each sale) and get people to move over to their service (which keeps that cut in-house). Problem is, Origins gets hacked. Constantly. Steam doesn't.

The Steam updating thing on reboots is a bug that occasionally pops up. I had that too for a while, don't remember what fixed it.
