Help with repeated Yahoo Mail Hacks

In the past month my Yahoo account has been hacked 2-4 times. Each time I have scanned my computer for viruses, changed my password, confirmed there is no alternate email address in my profile, and deleted my address book to prevent the hacker from sending spam to my contacts. The last time, the spam was sent to email address from my Sent folder so I deleted all sent messages.

I run Spybot and AVG malware software and there has been no indication of a keylogger trojan, but I was wondering if anyone knew a foolproof antilogger program that was freeware from a trusted site.

Any other help would be appreciated.

BTW, I never open attachments unless I absolutely trust the sender, and I am pretty diligent about my web surfing. With that said, I do post quite a few items on Craigslist and I know that is the happy hunting ground for hackers

Yahoo has been compromised more than a few times (nothing you can do about this) but what you describe sounds a bit off.

What are your symptoms of hacking? Just because people get mail LOOKING like it came from you, doesn't mean it involved Yahoo's servers (or your password) at all. Are these messages in your sent items at all by chance?

Anyway. I think your next step is to enable Yahoo's 2 factor authentication; you'll get a text message with a 6 digit code whenever you log in from a new device. If you start getting 2 factor codes without YOU logging in, you can be sure someone else is trying. If they're legitimately logging into your account to send mail this will stop them assuming there's nothing sketch going on with your PC.

Once they have your address and your contacts they are set.

Btw Yahoo limits how many emails can be sent out in a day. So not good for spamming. Hint they just clone your address. Send the spam from some questionable server.

Get yourself a gmail account or some other place the protects it's users. Yahoo basically does nothing to follow up on spam reports.

I had to change my password a few days ago because of "suspicious activity" found on my account. Changed it and just continuing to use it. I checked my sent folders and they were empty.

They don't use your account to send the spam...after all Yahoo limits how many emails they can send. They just clone it.

I changed it because yahoo locked the account from my iPhone so I couldn't receive emails. Changed it and I was good to go. And yeah I've noticed funky stuff going on in the spam emails I get. I opened one out of curiosity and it was sent to a bunch of emails that were extremely similar to mine, just different by a letter or two. Damn spammers

OP- Delete the AVG program in your computer, that's the first step. That program is a virus itself!

First off are you using xp or some older windows?

Those are just virus and hacker gateways anymore.

You need to move on to another OS!

What Fizz said: Turn on two factor authentication. Problem solved. Anyone trying to access your account from a new device will need the password PLUS a code that only gets sent to your phone via text

Take control of your account's security! Require an automatically generated code to login from unrecognized devices or browsers, in addition to your password. Learn how to turn on two-step verification.

This! Yahoo is history and known for this and other problems. I'm sure users in your contacts will start getting clone/ghost emails for sex products and other embarrassing junk/viruses. Close it and switch to Gmail or Outlook.

                        Don't use Yahoo!

Yahoo, and iOS(uX) are the NSA's favorite, at least that is what they say in security lectures I have watched.

Phase out your Yahoo account and switch to Gmail.

Also, create more than one email account. Use one for personal and share that address with friends and family only. Create a 2nd account for online stuff/purchases.

Gmail does a better job at filtering spam IMO.

There's your problem. Dump those two programs and run AVAST! antivirus (free to home users) and Malwarebytes. (Also free.)

I've repaired many computers that had AVG that were infected.

Are you sure your account was hacked? We went through about a year's worth of "account compromised" issues with Yahoo. Had to reset the password and security questions about 15 times. There was never any indication of our account being hacked. e.g. no spam emails being sent, no unauthorized IP addresses logged etc.

Yahoo had us install McAfee (free with certain accounts). We run all Macs and there was never any spyware/ malware found.

                              It eventually solved itself.
