Print Queue never empties on iMac

I have an iMac which is running Maverick's and an HP Officejet 6500. If I print something out, I have to manually go in and delete the document in the queue before it will print something else. As an added bonus, it reprints the last document (if I didn't delete it) when I go to put the computer to sleep.

I have searched far and wide and I can't find anything that answers my specific question. Any ideas?

How are you connected to the printer? USB, Ethernet, etc. Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from HP, removing your existing drivers, then reinstalling?
