back when I had Uverse I was running a router behind a router - though without thinking about it too much (have been up since yesterday & I'm tired) you might be able to just get away with running an access point since you are mostly wireless.

      Just my 2 cents.

If you are running a 5031NV (basically a rebranded 2WIRE) seems like to start the hardware has had many issues in the past. Perhaps your concerns maybe hardware related. I see many complaints online about the hardware that AT&T provides along with poor reviews when people purchased them on their own. But before we do that you may want to dive into the gateway and check and or change the settings. Often times there are setting that can be changed that allow certain devices priority over others. For example grant wired devices higher priority over wireless devices. Also limiting the amount of devices allowed to connect to the gateway. I would take a look there first before calling AT&T. See if there is anything that can be changed. Run a few tests then go from there. Hope this helps.

I'm running a router behind it and can run all my devices. I never even thought of using the wireless capabilities of the original gateway. Being old school, I have always set up internet at home and away this way.

My parents had this problem, the 2Wire that was supplied with UVerse was complete garbage for wireless. It would constantly drop connections and lock up when the wireless network was enabled, so to set up a wireless network for them I disabled wireless access directly from the 2Wire itself and plugged in a cheap wireless router for the wireless network. I then disabled DHCP on the wireless router so that the 2Wire would handle DHCP for the entire network.

I don't think its a channel problem its prob a port problem.

do a google search and see what port psn uses and then goto you localhost and open the port up.

I switched back to comcast, and have never regretted it.

Now.... If only I could find a way to get Comcast's internet, paired with ATT uverse...... heaven!

I would probably have to agree with cxr that ports can be a cause. Below is a link of ports to look at that the PS network uses.

I have the U-Verse 3600HGV and noticed some shenanigans with the connectivity of the wireless. Kept logging via hardwired connection and turning it back on..

I finally got tired of having to log in every few days and even a few times per day, so I piggy backed a Netgear N300 to it. The NG is so easy to navigate and configure, no problems with the speed. Netflix HD, Gaming, big downloads aren't a problem.

Haven't had a problem since adding the NetGear (about 1 year ago) and i run an X-box 360, Macbook Pro, Galaxy S4, and 2 iPads..... All pulling signal from the NetGear

The 3600HGV wireless signal didn't conflict with the NetGear 300N.. I could run them both simultaneously but after a while (a few months) the 3600HGV wireless would no longer broadcast. It didn't matter if I had the NetGear connected to it or not.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing myself. it appears that the 5031NV doesn't let you do a true bridge mode, but does some sort of IP passthrough. I've got a Cisco ASA 5505 behind it that I want to be able to manage the 5 static IP addresses I've got, but I can only seem to pass one static IP address through to the 5505 and it appears that the 5031 might be blocking some of the VPN traffic.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Hey buddy, is this still an issue for you?

Do you have internet only? Which plan do you have?

I may be able to lend some assistance.

                          Short answer:

Yes, you can disable the wireless functionality on your gateway and hook up a third-party external router and simply connect everything (wired or wireless) to the router (I've done it in the past). Essentially using the modem functionality of the gateway only.

However, this is not technically supported, and if you call technical support (people like me), they will most likely need you to remove the router from the loop to provide assistance. So it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" type situation.

If you're a tech guy, I say go for it. Worst that happens is you don't see any improved performance, in which case it would point to problems beyond your gateway.

                          .
                          .

Your best bet is to run the gateway in bridge/pass thru mode and run your own router. All Uverse gateways are crap and running that gateway to another router in pass thru mode works. I do the same thing at my business as I am running 4 external AP's and a Mikrotik router.

Time for a bump.... Can u guys recommend a router?

Going to finally do the bridge or pass through.

Thinking of getting a Netgear3700v4 or an Asus N66U.

Need to do this two eliminate the NAT problems on both 360 consoles...

                              What do u guys think?
