Help! Broken DC jack on 7" tablet

Ok all this is the problem I have. My Cube U25GT 7" tablet is down and battery is drained. I thought that the charger I had was going bad so I went out and bought 2 more. Neither of them worked. Well turns out my 4 year old nephew stuck/crammed a 3.5mm headphone jack in the DC jack (2.5mm?) and broke the pin. I took it apart and I recovered the pin.

    1. Anyone recommend a repair shop in San Diego? Preferably in the Chula Vista to El Cajon area?

    2. Is there a way to open the tablet and charge the battery directly?
This tablet does not have a secondary charging option like a USB port.

    Thanks,

      - I do not live in that area so I can not answer that one.

-This may be possible but it would more likely be a PITA.

I think low67vdubinnocal may be correct. It may be much cheaper to just replace it. I have seen this happen in laptops. The power jack will come loose from the mother\main board. Usually places charge $100 or close to solder it back on. Unless you are good with small computer hardware like your tablet and can solder I suggest replacing it. The only other option is the replace the entire board of the tablet. Not sure on the price for the part possibly also costly and requires some skill to tear down and rebuild.

I think the fry's tablet this week was like $68 NIB so repairing anything less then friend does it for free is not going to be worth the cost. I have an HP G 60 same problem but loose in case. I asked a couple of local repair shops and both said it's a cable port attached to the case and the case is most likely broken and a repair price of $180 to $250.

Not worth repairing a 3 year old bare bones laptop when your more then half the price of a new bare bone on sale laptop. It still charges so it goes in the spare pile.

There are some cheap cell phone battery uni chargers on e bay but like jimmy deuce mentioned it's not going to be worth the trouble getting at the battery every time it needs a charge.

I would bet if your handy you could solder a new charging port outside the case with small wires to the old charging port. Might not be pretty but it could work. Good luck either way.

Thanks for the responses, If I do go the route of replacing the tablet how do I remove the the data I have on it? Remember, I can't charge it and nothing super important on it, it was my kid nephew's, so lots of cartoons and family pictures. I don't want to recycle it and have someone find the pictures and use them for negative purposes.

It should have a removable memory card plugged into one of the sides like an SD card. Pop it out and plug it into the new one. Throw the old tablet into a drawer or take a hammer to it if your worried about it . When it comes to old tech I still have stuff from the 80's floating around I might need some day never.
