Got a Chromecast for Christmas, absolutely love it. For $35 you can't go wrong with it, and casting youtube videos actually works better/easier than my AppleTV does.

I picked up Chromecast and it works great for Netflix. My kids can now use Netflix from their iPod and play it on the 55" tv in the living room...and my wife gets her iPad mini back.

I bought one but never could get it to connect to my Asus router. Realistically a Roku serves my needs so much better than the Chromecast ever could.

My Apple TV's work great. I have two and just ordered a 3rd one. Streaming high def is effortless and every movie, TV show, and song I have ever bought are clouded to it for free. I can't imagine a better device for $100. It has made our quality of living so much better.
Plus anything I bring up on my jailbroken iPhone can AirPlay right to the TV with a push of a button. Convenient is an understatement.
If the kids want to watch a movie that came out in the theatre yesterday I can simply find it on my iPhone and stream it to the Apple TV in high def.
If the money is a concern Apple sells refurbished ones for $75.

Your laptop and phone don't even need to be on once the chromecast is streaming, I close mine and then boot it back up when I need to change content.

The part I like is sitting around with 5 friends all streaming things one after the other with no setup or problems. Also I enjoy playing on calguns or whatever in another tab while I'm streaming.

For $35 its a pretty good deal, this replaced a remote desktop app on my phone and plugging my laptop in across the room.

Also neat that you can take it with you and do presentations on projectors, tvs with relative ease.
All of this. I love Chromecast. Use it with Netflix and YouTube. Also use Plex as a media server. Compatible with Chromecast and can stream from any Windows, iOS, or Android device. Well worth it.

                Welp, I bought one.

                Like $37, shipped-from Cali.

I really don't want to give Apple a red-cent to sent all my info to the NSA (I would rather use one of my random fictitious-name Gmail accounts), nor do I want another Roku because of all the "their software/update" issues I have had.

We shall see, as we have like 8 Android devices here...

I just got one. They were on sale for $30 shipped last week from Staples and Amazon. It works great with my iPhone and iPad using YouTube, Netflix, HBO Go among others. Once I find something good to watch, I "throw" it off to the TV

I have one and my wife uses it all the time to stream Netflix from her iPhone to it.

For it to work you need to use an app designed to work with Chromecast. But of course, there is a workaround if you're on Android!

Install the app Avia and use the in-app purchase for $4.99 (I think) and you can stream any video including web video to the Chromecast.

Now only if it wasn't a backdoor for google to get on your network. Yes can be protected but not by Joe schmoe.

I am WAY more scared of Apple products, as we all know FOR SURE that they have 100% success rate at injection of malware by the NSA, it has been stated multiple times.

A simple google search makes me more at ease about using ANYTHING BUT APPLE devices:
Search the world's information, including webpages, images, videos and more. Google has many special features to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

                          vs.

I wonder if there is a "ROM" for this old HP thin client I have sitting here idle.

                              Hmmmm.

DAHAUM! I just got my Chromecast last night and I must say I am impressed.

There can be about 2 seconds of lag when you tell it to pause, but other than that it was flawless last night, and after selecting the Chromecast as the display device for streaming, the Netflix app works pretty nice as a remote for it.

I used to use a Roku (and that wouldn't stop RE-buffering over the last year, or two) with Roku remote apps on our Androids, but this Chromecast is really amazing how well it works. I will have to check it with some other apps, and might subscribe to Hulu now that I have a Chromecast.
