IT Managers how many of you are looking at SDN?

I'm interviewing with Alcatel Lucent and they're making a large push in the SDN space, just wanted to see what you guys think and if that's a priority now or down the road? And how much time I take studying up on it?

SDN isn't a very mature technology though now is a good time to start understanding it. It is certainly the future of networking however it isn't something heavily pushed on network engineers. A friend of mine works for Cisco and he says he has yet to see their CCIEs wasting their times with it.

SDN is supposedly what cisco's future focuses on. my friends working for cisco are studying up like mad in preparation. in many ways we have already been using this type of technology.

cisco needs a game changer. they have been fast falling behind their competitors as far as networking security is concerned and their sdn tech supposedly largely focuses on this issue. it also allows them to retain their smartnet contracts because companies will keep their old hardware but this new software solution.

i cant wait to play with a new device from cisco as my company and many others in my field (finance) have switched from cisco to juniper.

my cousin at ibm has also been working on SDN based tech. he is a director for the advanced technology group for california.

basically it boils down to this: dont underestimate this technology, it is the future of networking. anyone that tells you different will be left behind.

I dont have a good grip on SDN as I should, then again IT in the military is always a decade behind. To me this sounds like a proprietary built-in solarwinds; taking SNMP to a whole new level.
