    Hi-gain wifi antenna ??

    Greetings,
I'm looking for a way to get a wireless internet connection to the guest house which is probably 300' plus from the main house. I can barely get a signal there now with existing router which is placed as close to guest house as possible. There is also no place in between to hook up a wifi extender. I've looked at upgrading the router but there is no guarantee to the range, seem like this antenna might be the way to go with a 1000' range and even though it's pricey, it's not much more than a top of the line router. Has anyone had any experience with this type of antenna? Seems like setup is easy too.

    thanks for any info.

    For dependability I will say

    One of these http://www.network-equipment.com/eth...-reach-booster

A lot of cable and a wifi router in the guest house.

Maybe go to home depot and rent a couple 2 legged trench diggers along with $40 worth of cable and $40 of PVC pipe. Be cheaper and reliable.

Of course Amazon does have a good return policy.

This. Probably not what you want to hear but 300' is a long way for consumer-grade wireless.

That device will only work if you have high power gear at the other end. It will not work with your average laptop, cellphone, ect.

I would recommend putting up a wireless bridge, probably on 5.8ghz and another access point at the remote location. I currently have several bridges with ranges in excess of 8 miles to the remote site.

I use exclusively Ubiquiti devices, they are dirt cheap and perform fantastic.

Hopefully you also have the line of sight from the main house to the guest house. From my experience the devices should work without the dish at those distances.

Thank you all so much for the replies, I knew you all would set me straight. Yes it is line of sight between the two places, but digging a trench would be a real pain. Two sections of driveway and a couple of rock walls to contend with. I looked at this site but not really sure what it is I need. I'll try to figure it out. Just trying to go from a DSL connection in the main house to a laptop in the guest house. Thanks again, cheers.

That was what I bought x2 which will form a wireless Ethernet link. It is long range and high speed.

However, thinking about it, have you tried the powerline ethernet adapters by netgear?

The nanostations are great for short range, less than 5 mile links.
swissarmyca's link wouldnt work for me so i cant see how much amazon wants for them but i do most of my business with pasadena networks.

Use 2 of these to create the link and then

                  this http://www.wlanparts.com/product/PICO2/
                  or thishttp://www.wlanparts.com/product/PICOM2HP/

for the access point at the remote location.

DD WRT plus a solar powered wireless bridge

if i ever move back up to Trinity full time i plan on building something like this but with directional cantennas and a much larger battery and panel ..

Dd wrt on a cheap router is the way to go. Can even configure the bridge with a guest network so people in guest house can't scan your network for fun.
