I tried it for a while then closed the account. Used it to track student loan stuff but I didn't feel comfortable with them having ALL of my information. I wouldn't recommend it.

If you have a mac, I recommend Chronicle from the app store. It lets you input your balance/details/etc, and can even send you email reminders. It's not linked to your accounts, so you're responsible for making sure everything is correct, but at least you don't have to hand over your details.

Mint.com is run by the same company that makes TurboTax (intuit). If you use that they have access to most of that information anyway since a lot of it is put in to your tax returns.

I've used Mint before, it's convenient to have everything in the same area however some of their tools aren't very useful beyond tracking expenses.

I've tried a couple budgeting programs. Only looked at mint.com but didn't like the fact that it's online only.

Have you ever worried about money? You're not alone. Download YNAB, get good at money, and never worry about money again.

I use YNAB now. It is a desktop application with a satellite smartphone application for entering purchases throughout the day instead of updating your budget once you get home.

The YNAB smartphone app makes on the go entry a breeze. No waiting for a web page to load or verifying login.

I've used it for a year now to help get an idea of my family's expenses and trends. I plan on discontinue using it after this year though as I don't really like that much information being accessible out there without any fraudulent insurance from Mint.com being available - it's not like your credit card or bank who tend to be helpful in seeking out fraud.

Looks pretty good, going to test to get off my budget spreadsheet. Maybe try to get the daughter using it - might help her manage her money a bit better.

                    I wouldn't use mint.com . I don't care if they use a third-party to store your credentials, I don't trust that third-party either.

I use GoodBudget (renamed from EEBA, Easy Envelope Budget Aid). What I like best is that with a single account my phone and my wive's is tied to our budget. We can real-time enter transactions and see what is going on with our budget.

Best of all is multiple-category transactions for those big shopping trips (looking at you Costco), so I can split up groceries, clothing, movies, oh and last week auto (tires).

Then when I sit down monthly, I can either CSV export the transactions and import it into GnuCash (think open source Quicken), and then sync my CCs and Credit Checking/Savings accounts, and look for any problems (in case somehow we forget to record a transaction, or there was a fraudulent transaction). Speeds it up a ton having all the transactions recorded at the time that they occur. Plus you can store the transaction location, so most of the time when I go to record a new expense (say like Burger King tonight), it knows where I am at, knows that I use my AMEX there, knows the right category, so all I have to do is record the amount.

I only use GoodBudget to track my on-the-go transaction categories. All my normal bills and stuff I already have in GnuCash. GoodBudget could go belly-up, and I still have all my normal GnuCash data offline. I would just lose the convenience of GoodBudget to record transactions while on the go.

intuit has a decent security setup. Mint is no more or less safe than using the CC via cellphone swiper they make. Take it or leave it. I'm a little shaky on the whole thing, but i also remember when BBS was the www.
