    Audio system static problem

Got a weird problem. My sound system is a CD player and receiver. The receiver A speakers feed to a subwoofer, and from there to the A right and left speakers. The line for the B speakers is direct to the speakers in the next room (no subwoofer there).

Intermittent static is a problem. It seems to originate from the right A speaker. When you walk near it, or touch it, all the speakers put out static. Even happens with the speakers off and only headphones plugged in. But it can happen even if no one is near the right A speaker. Disconnecting the right A speaker eliminates the static.

I've checked the connections. All are solid. I am considering a line conditioner (it's an old house).

    Baffled.

Either a cellphone near the speaker can give static or maybe the speaker is blown?

Try taking the "static" speaker and plugging it in somewhere else to see if the speaker still has static.

Good idea. I'll swap the A right and left speakers.

you could also try shielding the wiring, as this happens sometimes from RF bleed.

Shield the wiring/add a ferrite bead

I went to audioholics...wow, static problems are not unusual. One thread addressed static which was remedied by unplugging everything for 24 hours. I tried that and it seems to have worked.

Unplugging the system works. Static build-up is common on cheap wires. Shielded cables will make a difference.

                  On sale right.

OP don't buy this. Go to monoprice.com and pick up some cables.

Give them a call. Tell them the length of your wire runs and be done.
