    School me on tablets

Hey all. Want to get myself a tablet for Xmas. But don't think I want to spend the money on iPad. I've read a bunch of reviews and it seems the nexus an the galaxy are both great bang for the buck. Any input?

There are 2 or 3 recent threads in this very sub-forum on this exact subject. Read those and then you may consider yourself schooled.

Unless the lack of SD card slot is a deal-breaker, get a Nexus.

        What not to buy...

Do not buy the Kindle Fire. The interface on it is so obtuse, we pass it around at Christmastime trying to get my dad on the web (other than buying books or Facebook).

If you have to install proprietary software like iTunes, seek something more "open", like and Android-based tablet, of any variety.
( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Device...=%22tablet%22; would be my choices for "openness"...)

I think if you go to a store, you may be able to tinker with them for seeking what you desire.

I could not use a tablet that has no back button in >50% of applications I have used...
