Strange iPhone issue - FREE BEER !!!

My contact list has mysteriously eliminated about half of the stored contacts.

Text messages / emails / etc are fine.

When I plugged the phone in to do a restore -

The selections under "devices" are greyed out and I can't click "restore from backup".

    Did a BING search - Didn't help -

    What say you...?

(And don't be one of the douches who say "Get rid of your iPhone...")

I don't believe "FREE BEER" applies to anything BSD based, or derived. I don't think Stallman approves...

Could some of the contacts added from apps that auto-syncs (the same as Android does?) contacts, and that could have been disabled or not reinstalled after an uninstall of an app? (If you had a menu button you could hit that under contacts, and see if you are displaying all of them, or just certain account&app specific contacts.)

Factory it, and start over with a fresh resync from iCloud (or whatever) to see if just the data got whacked?

Can you check contacts ahead of time via web site for iCloud (?) to see if they are there, like Android users can?

Assuming it's not some weird contact synch issue (depends on if you are syncing contacts or not), in terms of a restore, as long as you know you have a good back up on your PC (Or via iCloud) I'd do a factory restore on the phone and then use your last valid back up and see what happens.

Do you have an Apple store nearby? They can be pretty helpful. May be an easy fix...

Hard reset the phone and restore it through iTunes.
