Rebuilding laptop batteries

anyone tried it before? tomshardwareguide has a tutorial along with a few other sites. but just wondering how easy it was to find the replacement nimh or li-ion parts, and getting them to be the right size to fit.

Sure, if you know what you are doing.

Let me put it another way. If you screw up, you make a bomb. While NiMh batteries are fairly stable, Li-Ion are not. Li-Ion must have sensors on each cell and a system to regulate the cell output. If any of that fails. BOOM... BOOOOM.. lots of flame and heat.

A laptop battery that's dead enough to not hold a charge is 4, 5 years old. I defy you to find a NON-MAC laptop that old that's worth more than $150-200 on ebay. My life is worth more than that, especially when you can get a replacement battery for about 30 beans.

i did get replacement batteries before. basically right after the 3-month warranty, it went kaput. so i'm just looking for alternatives.

Yes, it's pretty easy to do. Go online, find replacement battery, add to basket, checkout, and wait a few days to arrive.
Done.

wasn't a refurb. you're assuming a little. also, i follow proper maintenance for nimh/li-ion. it still died.
