    iPad or Surface?

And I know there must be more choices.

When the iPad first came out I got one. I think I had one 2 weeks after release and I'm still using that same one today. I use it "all the time" and I enjoy tablets a great deal. The only thing I can't do is write - which I like to do on them. I don't mean post on a forum but write - as in use a word processor extensively.

I mostly use my iPad for reading, browsing the web (wifi) and some simple app stuff nothing major. I still use wordsmith or werdsmith I guess they call it as a means to jot down ideas once in a while but I don't write with the ipad. Its getting old - its slower - charges don't last as long - its almost 3 years right now. So I'm starting to save up for its replacement. That will probably be a Christmas time present to myself.

Which one - can you write better on the new Surface with its keyboard or is it just too small for that - I need to put my hands on that one and find out. I know Apple will have a next generation iPad out before Christmas so I'll watch and look at that - I use an iphone too so apple stuff is something I prefer.

Why haven't you gotten a keyboard for the iPad (Amazon)? Given that you would like to do that.

I have plans to buy a Surface Pro... because I want a full OS on a tablet, but I don't think its going to replace my iPad either since I like it for entertainment use.

I like them for different things... If it was between a Surface RT or iPad I would take the iPad.

Surface Pro is nice since I can install applications on them which you cant typically use on an iPad or RT and would basically be a laptop replacement for me.

I just got a logitech bluetooth iPad keyboard from Woot for $19. It was new, not refurbished. The thing works great. I never have been able to get used to the onscreen tablet keyboard.

            That's what I was thinking...a seperate BlueTooth keypad or a keypad/cover.

The iPad and Surface are for two totally different markets. Figure out which market you fit in and that will tell you which device to purchase.

If you really want to try out a Surface, you might want to just wait a couple months. There might be a fire sale similar to what happened to the HP TouchPad.

DavidGilbert99 writes "Microsoft took everyone by surprise last year with the Surface tablet. It was something completely new from the company everyone knew as a software company. However nine months later and the sheen has worn off the Surface tablet and Microsoft's financial results on Thursday re...

I have nearly thrown my iPad across the room a few times when the onscreen keyboard caused me to misspell the same word 6 times in a row. For some reason I also tend to hit the 'N' instead of the space bar about 50% of the time. I think it is a clever marketing ploy to get you back in the Apple Store every year to replace what you destroy in a fit.

If you need to run Microsoft whatever natively for work purposes, the Surface could make sense. Otherwise, an iPad with Bluetooth keyboard can handle your web browsing and email needs.

Or you can be really slick and use a Remote Desktop app like Team Viewer to connect from your iPad to your laptop or PC that's on and connected to the Internet.

Surface will be phazed out, it horrible and not selling, not selling means no app development. The only choices are ipad and samsung. I like microsoft but the win8 is not popular, and why they put that crap on desktops is beyound me.

Yup, helps a lot, you can also spread the keyboard apart and type with thumbs. Takes a bit to get used too though.

I didn't know you could do that. I grabbed my iPad and tried it, I probably won't be using it.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.
