    Help to remove a VPN

I installed Himachi VPN from filehippo.com. My wife was deploying to UAE we tried the free version it didn't work, so she went with "hide my ***" and that works for a fee.
I have uninstalled Hamachi but can no longer use my network printer due to a firewall error. I'm pretty sure that is the cause, but not 100% Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Are you having issues printing from your wife's computer or another computer?
Is the printer wireless or wired?
Does the printer work from other computers on the network?
Do you know if the printer has an IP address? If so, what is it? You may be able to get this from a display, or have the printer print a configuration menu.
What's the IP address of your computer?
Can you ping the printer's IP address from the computer having a problem? How about another computer?

Don't know your level of technical savvy, let me know if any of those steps require clarification.

Actually, just looked up the Hide My *** service.

What hide my *** does isn't a VPN like Hamachi which gets you a point to point tunnel. It's an anonymizing/filter bypassing tool; it doesn't establish a connection between two locations. Essentially, you get a secure connection between your computer and their servers, which then acts like a proxy spreading out where your requests come from to obscure that they came from you.

Potential 1: So, if you're using the service chances are it's using a gateway configured by the software; your print requests can't 'see' your printer as it's piping all TCP/IP traffic over the tunnel.

Potential 2: If your printer is setup to use DNS to connect (your computer connects via a hostname) it could also be that you're using the VPN's DNS servers, which have no way to resolve your printer's IP. Adding an entry to the hosts file would fix this situation.

Really depends on how things are setup.

I have win8 went to control panel and network connections and hamachi was enabled, even though i ran the uninstall. I hit disable but still no luck

What IP address does the printer have?

Psh Ctrl Alt Del, and select the option to run Task Manager, select "File>New Task" type, "CMD," push enter. It'll pop up with a black box.

type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" replace the x's with the printer's IP.

Afterwards, type "ipconfig" and press enter and let me know what you get. You can right click, click mark, highlight the text, push enter, then paste it here.

since it's not working from any of the computers at home and you can't get to its configuration page from the web I you have a connectivity problem somewhere (assuming the printer has a built in web server). It's most likely coincidental with the VPN stuff, not causal.

                No, not exactly
It's likely a 192.xxx.xxx.xxx or 10. Address which is not routable on the Internet
A person yes could obtain your external ip but then would need to get past the router, which hopefully you changed the password on, I seem someone's sig a few weeks ago that is scripted to show your IP address even, so in some cases simply visiting a page exposes your ip publicly
Script kiddies are always trying random address ranges, which is more a threat than posting your internal ip here

                  Hi.

From the command prompt instructions you were already given, please run the command "netstat -rn" without the quotes, as well as "ipconfig /all" again without the quotes.

You aren't able to select, copy and paste manually, but if you right click and hit select all (I believe...I don't use windows), and then copy you should be able to grab the full text. Paste it here.

Don't worry, giving out your internal networking information is definitely no threat...everybody uses the same ranges, they aren't unique to you. Even if your external address gets out, its already tracked everywhere and widely known anyway.

I would also double check your windows firewall settings, but this way I can look at your adapters and your routes and see if you have a tunnel still active or something. Also, paste your printers IP please.

                  Thanks,
                  Morgan

does it startup as a service ?? have you tried disabling it? just run MSCONFIG and see if there is a Hamachi service running disable it or start it from booting up.

I did try a system restore but it didn't go back over 30 days. I'm thinking of backing up all data and seeing If I can restore everything to factory default.
When I installed Hamachi could my modem have been effected, my other computers did not require me to log onto Hamachi private network for internet, so maybe "no"

                              Thanks for all your help

I finally got it working but not sure how I did it.
                              I:
                              1. Reinstalled Hamachi and uninstalled it.
                              2. Removed all users from VPN
                              3. Renamed my homenetwork
                              4. Reinstalled printer
                              5. Turned everything off and back on
                              6. magically works and print is now seen

                              Thanks for all your help
