help picking a super low budget tablet

I have a budget of $150. It's a birthday gift for my wife from her mom. I've asked her several times if I could add money to the pot so we could buy a nexus 7, but she said "NO!"

It looks like at this price the name brand offerings are really just fancy beverage coasters. I've done some looking around at the "off brands" and the two I see the most positive reviews on are Ainol and PiPO. Anyone with experience with either of these brands or any other recommendations?

Just find your best deal on the one you want and don't tell your mother-in-law you had to pay extra ...
People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

If it's going to be mostly reading email, web browsing, music and video this would be my suggestion as well, I have one of the original models and it works quite well for most basic functions. I wouldn't try and use it for work but for an inepensive tablet it's pretty good.

            Chromebook..... Samsung macair-esque.

I use mine for 90% of my computer use now. Actual Photoshop, InDesign, gaming and video editing is the other 10% on my desktop.

My Sis just got one of those Kindle HD's and just loves it.
I messed with it a bit and it is a pretty cool devise.

I think this is the one she bought. I know it wasn't the 7"
version, nor was it the 4g. I DO know there was a lil problem
with it at first and Amazon was on top of it within an hr and
offered to send her out a brand new one at no cost.

I have an Asus Transformer which I really don't like. It lags pretty bad. My wife has an Acer Tablet with less memory and it is faster. I don't know what the pricepoints are these days, but that's just my .02. I never played with a Kindle Fire, but it seems to be the same as most every other tablet.

Kindle tablets are good but they lack the ability to add more memory. That is a huge problem for me. I have 4 or 5 kindle readers laying around because of that. I bought them for the family an in-laws. After having them for a few months I realized that the limited memory was just to big a hurdle to deal with. I switched everybody over to the nook lines, added a 16 or 32 gig card and they are good to go. No more lag because of lack of memory.

If you are going for an Android tablet make sure it is at least the jelly bean version. I had an early Android tablet and hated it. It went to my Father in-law.

Gently used or refurbished nexus 7. I have an ipad as well and more often than not use the nexus.
