This one is no-contract and runs on GSM, but you need to provide your own sim card. Not sure how much that would be.

Not really. Nerds rarely are tweekers that randomly break into houses. My internal cameras are switched off when I get home. Now if your network is open you probably have a problem.

Besides, I like to walk around naked so that is security enough

How do you get them to turn off?

4,294,967,296 IPv4 addresses total, many network addresses and broadcast addresses. In my mind the chance is pretty slim that someone would hack into my camera to watch my sexy-arse make/drink coffee, scratch my sack, and such... The cameras I have support https, but used to only support http, so passwords were being sent plain text and could have been captured anywhere along the route from viewing device to my home router, and when someone is watching live the light on the front blinks, and I use pretty cryptic passwords after switching the firmware to support https.

Sure I poke holes in my firewall, but at least I put everything on alternate ports so that if a port-scan finds an open port, they would then theoretically have to find out what that was running on that alternate port, and then try to crack it and the chances of this are slim-to-none, but could happen. I would guess that I would be leased a new IP before just one combo (IP & open port) was found, and port-scans of that scale might be noticed...

              Oversimplified summary of above:
              4294967296 addresses
              *65535 ports to be scanned
              ---------------------
152621662863360 possible combinations to find the one port for one camera all to watch me scratch my balls, and if they cracked my username/password combo, (as I don't even use my real name on Facebook), I would notice the blinking light... theoretically. (If they found an exploit that allowed them to watch without blinking the light then they deserve to watch. )

It's all worth it if I can make sure my son is doing his homework, not watching Sarah Silverman's gangbang, AND motion capture mug-shots before the alarm alerts monitoring company if nobody is there.

I used to change my IP more than monthly, but this new router does not allow an easy way to do that...

+1 for foscam cameras...I have 2 outdoors and 2 indoors

if you pair your cameras with a Synology server, they have their surveillance software that is pretty sweet - with that software you can get push notifications to your phone, an iphone app, as well as cool dvr like controls for reviewing recordings/setting motion zones/etc. You can even buy an add on device to do it all from your tv (but i didn't)

I really like this camera system:

Lorex helps you stay connected to what matters most with home and business security solutions that keep you aware and protected. Trusted for over 30 years.

I really like that it has PIR for more accurate motion detection recording, and that all of the cameras have built in microphone and speaker for intercom from the viewer. I just don't like that it isn't setup for remote viewing and it records to the sd card in the viewer. If only the viewer had wifi for remote access then it would be perfect! The problem is that I haven't found an outdoor IP camera that has PIR. Maybe I'm overthinking this or being too picky...

I guess I don't necessarily need video motion detection notifications as long as it records. If somebody actually breaches the "perimeter" it will set off my security alarm which will notify me, and the cameras will have recorded. But I would like to be able to check the cameras from my phone or computer in case the alarm does go off.

Maybe if I get the lorex system for the front door and perimeter, and a couple wifi cameras for inside that I can check remotely if the alarm goes off.
