old Iphone advice for someone that said they would never get one ...lol

i dont do cell phones but i am thinking about picking up a old Iphone for web surfing as i dont seem to be home much these days... so looking for advice on the cheapest way to go on buying a used iphone?

i have seen a few locals selling 3gs for around 70 bucks and wondering if thats a good price on one , and is the 3gs compatible with 4g service, and is the speed of the 3gs ok for surfing places like CalGuns ?
also is 2.5 GB alot on a phone plan?
i use that in a hour on my desktop lol

i dont want to get locked into a contract so looking to buy outright without dipping to deep into my gun $$$ lol

    dont do cell phones?

    anyway...

unless it's an Iphone 5 then you wont be getting 4g service. If you're just looking to browse the web i'd say to look into a tablet over an iphone. Or just get an Ipod

      ^^^This.

And 2.5 gigs can go pretty fast. The bonus with some phone companies is if you use wifi it doesn't count toward the data usage.
      Sorry, not sorry.

I'm using my old IPhone4 for browsing the net right now. With no service plan you can still use wifi and there's tones of public places with free wifi. For the purpose of surfing the web using wifi get a used IPhone4. They come in ethier 8G or 16G capacity, minus the actual software which is about 2.3G. You can probably get by with an 8G unless you want a bunch of apps, a lot of music and camera storage. Apple stopped selling the 16G, Iphone4 and is only offering the 8G now, so there's probably a lot more of the 8G then 16G on the used market for a decent price. You'd probably pay a little more for the 16G but if you don't need all that space get the 8G, 4 not the 4s.

Don't get an iphone. Very small screens. Puny!

Get an android, much more selection and much larger screens. Mine is a 1920x1080, crystal clear.

I hate to say this but I haven't had a "Home Phone" for about 10 years.

The I phone sucks for screen size (for your purposes)

Considering your budget (who wants a 2 year contract? Not me) I would
get a Boost Mobile phone. My daughter has one and it had unlimited Data, talk and text for $45 bucks a month. No contract, just month to month. (she has an Android, which after a few minutes of watching UTube Videos on how to work them prefers them) She did have to buy the phone outright ($129) but the screen size is fabulous and she can stream data, movies, videos, it has a front and back camera, she can email dad, talk and text. The google maps GPS is incredible and has really saved my bacon when driving her somewhere. Only $45 bucks and well worth it. I can tell you don't like learning about Andriod but feel the fear and do it. I think Andriods are much better than I phones.

Hit up Radio Shack to look at Boost Mobile. Boost uses the SPRINT network.

              Good luck

I just finally switched from my 2007 flip phone yo an Iphone 4 which was free (minus the tax and $25 fee from Verizon). Just to address your original question, the 3G network handles Calguns and AR15.com fine if you are viewing the mobile phone version. If you want the whole shebang it bogs down quick and it's a PITA to have to zoom in on everything to read the normal version.

If you are going to get an iPhone, a requirement to install iTunes that runs some unnecessary services might sway you toward a better device like an Android, or a newer iPhone.

Most new smartphones (by the way, they are ALL cell phones...include your old styled flip phone) come with WiFi built-in, so even if you sign up for a 2.5gb data plan, if you stick with internet connection via Wifi, you'll do pretty ok.

Try a Nokia Lumia 920 from AT&T, I have one and like it. Wireless charging built-in, no more having to plug the phone in to charge. Just place it on the charging plate and it'll start charging. $19.99 from amazon.com with AT&T plan (2 year contract).

A used Galaxy S phone would be a good option for general use with a bigger screen and even the Epic 4g from sprint is going for like $138 and you can use the keyboard if you are actually surfing and entering data in fields so you can still type AND see the screen:

A tablet w/cell service might be a good option with a bluetooth keyboard...

Since I buy devices with keyboards, I haven't even turned my laptop on in years.

I think most current cell data plans come with at least some tethering included.

Iphone 4s is not 4g. They changed the icon in the phone to trick and lie to its customers. There are also 3 att networks (3g, 4g, 4glte) the 4g lte is only on the iphone5, and in my opinion 4g sucks... by default 3g and edge also suck.

Here is a boring article with speeds of the networks and offers a good explanation. http://m.cnet.com/news/is-the-at&t-i...r-not/57408432

Also, straight talk is pretty good. They will help you unlock and "hack/mod" any phone to work on their service. It can be purchases one month, six months and one year at a time.

Do not go with virgin mobile. Their owner is anti 2a.
