    Current apps on iPhone 3...

I asked on OT, should have come here first.

My old iphone3 is in good shape, and I want to get some educational games and stuff on it for my 5yr old boy.
It wnot seem to take the new apps, and I can't seem to find any functional old apps to install on it.

Is there a firmware (or whatever) I can install, or a hack I can do to get it running for my son?
Not really interested in the 'junk it and replace it' solution, hoping one of y'all can lead me to a working solution...

    Thanks!

Unfortunately there is not a working solution. You could jalbreak it and search cydia for educational apps but they won't compare to the variety or quality of the AppStore.

The most amazing thing about Apple iOS devices is the enormous selection and quality apps found in the app store, especially educational apps. Trust me, I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. They each have their own iPad and own iPod touch 4th gen and have a lot of educational apps on them.

I'm a teacher myself and find the educational apps to be highly beneficial especially to toddler age kids.

Unfortunately Apple can not be expected to continually support their old devices. The processors are just to slow to run modern apps and modern operating systems.

If you do decide to upgrade you can find refurbished 8GB touch's on Apple's site for $149. Periodically they drop the price to $129. These still have a few good years left before Apple ditches them.

Does anyone here know where the older applications can be found?
If only the older apps work, and there's any possible way to access them, I'd really like to save the perfectly functional piece of equipment.

Fact: Newer apps bring old Apple devices to a crashing standstill.

All part of the plan to keep you upgrading on schedule.

I get the 'new apps will crash this iPhone3' detail, but it would be great to find older apps
Y'know, like I can find old songs out there on the web -- not so much with old apps..?

Check out vintapps in the Apple app store. It has information on tons of these earlier apps that can be downloaded. Many are free
